Before considering ways to “detox”, let us first understand what toxins are. Without getting involved into scientific terminologies we could look upon anything that is capable of causing a disease on contacting or on being absorbed by body tissues, or simply put anything that is poisonous to our biological functioning, is a toxin.
From this point of view our body also produces a lot of waste matter which can be termed as toxin; fortunately our biological system is so programmed that it gets rid of these toxins as a normal function.
A detox diet, then, is a dietary system that involves introduction or elimination of certain items of food or drink for the purpose of assisting the body to “purify” itself, or cleanse itself, of toxins, the poisonous substance(s). Detoxing is believed to improve health, resistance to diseases, energy, and aid in natural weight loss.
However, many dieticians and doctors regard “detoxing” as no more effective than drinking a glass of water and as such regard detoxing as a fad.
Usually "Detox" diets suggest that majority of your food intake should be restricted to fruits and vegetables, and water. Alcohol is totally eliminated. There are many variants of detox diet plans including juice fasting, water fasting, lemonade diet, etc. There are many advocates of these various detox diets and plans. However, most of them are a little harsh for a common man.
The following 7 day detox plan follows the basic tenets of detox but is safer, more flexible and hence sensible and will ensure sufficient nutrients to the body while still aiding to lose weight.
Your diet may include:
Fruits: Apples, bananas, pears, oranges, etc. either fresh, frozen or dried, or canned in natural fruit juice;
Fruit juice: Homemade fresh fruit juices or smoothies – not sweetened;
Vegetables: Almost any vegetable such as carrots, turnip, sprouts, cabbage, onions, peppers, sweet corn, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, salad, etc. – fresh or frozen.
Beans and lentils: Any beans such as haricot, cannelloni, red kidney, black eye, red lentils, green lentils, etc fresh, or dried or canned in water;
Potatoes – all types
Brown rice and rice noodles
Fresh fish: Any fresh fish cod, salmon, lobster, plaice, mackerel, crab, trout, haddock, tuna, Dover sole, red mullet, prawns, etc;
Unsalted nuts: Brazil, cashew, hazel nuts, peanuts, almonds, pecans, pine nuts, macadamia, walnuts, pistachio, etc;
Live natural yoghurt;
Garlic, ginger and fresh herbs;
Honey;
Water: Tap or mineral water at least 2 liters a day;
Herbal or fruit teas
Avoid the following:
Chicken, turkey, Red meat, and meat products such as burgers, sausages, etc;
Milk and milk products such as cheese, cream and butter;
Eggs;
Bread, etc. that contains wheat;
Salted snacks, salted nuts;
Sweets, jam, chocolate, sugar;
Alcohol;
Coffee, tea;
Fizzy drinks and squashes;
Processed foods, Sauces, salad dressing, pickles, mayonnaise;
Salt.
The detox diet suggested here is easy to follow, and will permit enjoyable meals without violating the requirements of detoxing.

These little Tibetan Goji berries are plumper than the Chinese ones, and they taste much better to me. I have been feasting on them for a week now, and losing about half a pound a day!



The taste is a little hard to describe. It's not quite as sweet as a raisin and not as tart as a dried cranberry. They are pleasing to most people.



In Tibet and Mongolia, people love these berries so much that they devote two weeks a year to celebrating the berries, probably something like wine fests in Europe in past times. The most commonly cited side effect of eating too many berries is that they might cause you to laugh more. It is said that a handful in the morning will make you happy all day.



They are a very rich source of vitamin C, having 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges, actually more almost any fruit you could name. They are also a superb source of vitamin A, not surprising because they are a really pretty red color. Goji berries also have vitamins B1, B2, B6, and E; they are becoming a famous antioxidant. They are also a rich source of both selenium and germanium and have hence been used in a number of clinical trials involving cancer patients. When given to patients undergoing chemotherapy, the berries conferred significant protection for the liver.



In Oriental medicine, they are said to correct chi deficiency, meaning that people with low energy, insomnia, heart palpitations, and even anxiety are more comfortable after consuming Goji berries.

In a big glass of hot or cold water, juice or herb tea add one handful of Goji Berries and let them sit and hydrate for a few minutes or put several handfuls in a pitcher and enjoy all day as you drink your own delicious Goji Berry elixir. Chewing the Gojis as you drink is a wonderful experience and with 500 times more Vitamin C by weight then Oranges, It's a great pick-me-up between meals and the most delightful way to enjoy a glass of water.



Goji Fruit Smoothie:

Cream of Buckwheat with Goji Berries:



For people who struggle with wheat allergies and gluten intolerance, buckwheat is an ideal food. Many people who are having physical and emotional challenges find that removing wheat and other gluten containing foods from their diet makes a profound difference in how they think and feel. Buckwheat has plenty of protein and B vitamins, and is rich in phosphorus, potassium, iron, and calcium. Although buckwheat has many grain-like characteristics, it is from an entirely different botanical family, and is actually a fruit. Since buckwheat is unrelated to the classic cereal grains, those who are allergic to wheat can tolerate buckwheat.



To make a serving for two people: Bring 2 1/2 cups of water to a boil, slowly stir in 1/2 cup of Cream of Buckwheat, return to boil. Add a handful of Goji Berries per person. A dash of good quality salt is optional. Reduce heat to low, simmer 10 minutes stirring frequently



Tibetan Goji & Blueberry-Peach Pie:



A lavish nutty crust surrounds layers of juicy peaches, Goji Berries and blueberries. A perfect nutrient rich treat.



Crust: 1 and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar or Stevia liquid extract - 20 drops

1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg

5 tablespoons butter, cut into 1-inch chunks

1 egg, beaten

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 cup finely chopped pecans Peach layer

3 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches

2 tablespoons sugar or Stevia liquid extract - 20 drops

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon butter Blueberry layer

4 cups blueberries

1/4 cup sugar or vegetable glycerin

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon lemon juice

dash ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon butter



Goji Berry layer: 4 cups Goji Berries - presoak twenty minutes in peach juice to soften

1/4 cup sugar or vegetable glycerin

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon lemon juice

dash ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon butter



Preparation:



1.To make the crust, place the flour and sugar or glycerin in a food processor. Process briefly to mix. Drop the chunks of butter into the feed tube with the motor running and process quickly until the mixture is crumbly. Add the egg, almond, and pecans and process until just combined. Do not overmix the crust.



2.Form the dough into a flattened ball and press it into the bottom and sides of a 12-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Chill the crust for 30 minutes.



3.Preheat oven to 350F.



4.Bake the crust for 15 to 20 minutes, or until slightly brown around the edge. Cool the crust on a wire rack.



5.To make the peach layer, mash the peaches together with the sugar/glycerin, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens. Add the butter and stir until blended. Cool slightly and pour into the cooled crust.



6.To make the blueberry layer, mash 2 cups of the blueberries with the sugar/ glycerin, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon and cook in a large saucepan over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until thickened and translucent. Stir in the butter and the remaining whole blueberries. Cover the peach layer with this blueberry mixture. Leave the tart in the pan and cover tightly with plastic wrap before putting into the pack.



7.To make the Goji Berry layer, mash 2 cups of the presoaked or blanched Goji Berries with the sugar or glycerin, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon and cook in a large saucepan over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until thickened and translucent. Stir in the butter and the remaining whole Goji Berries. Cover the blueberry layer with this Goji Berry mixture. Leave the tart in the pan and cover tightly with plastic wrap before putting into the pack. Makes one 12-inch pie!

The Healing Power Of Trees

For example, with trees, a Willow was traditionally used to treat rheumatism, arthritis and muscular aches. The symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis are exacerbated by damp conditions. So the tree’s characteristics suggest that it will be beneficial for people who need flexibility and the ability to cope with dampness.
Today, scientists have discovered more than 300 plant-made pharmaceuticals (PMPs) under various stages of discovery. For centuries the Chinese have used the medicinal properties of trees to cure illnesses, as have the Native Americans. The bark is called Hou Pu.  Hou Pu is the part of the bark that is highly aromatic and stripped from the stems, branches and roots of the magnolia.  In historic documents, the first mention of magnolia bark as a Traditional Chinese medicinal substance was recorded around 100 C.E.  Acupuncturists and practitioners of Oriental medicine still continue to use Hou Pu. It is also used in Chinese herbal formulas to resolve complaints such as abdominal distension and pain, vomiting and diarrhea.  Magnolia bark‘s therapeutic actions include the promotion of qi in the gastrointestinal region.  For the acupuncture patient, this translates to relief of stomach fullness, bloating and discomfort.

As for the Native Americans, traditionally they have used Aspen bark for reducing fever and fighting influenza.
If it isn't the tree specifically that is used, it is often the nut of the tree. For instance the walnut is considered to be an herb in Chinese medicine. Walnuts are said to tone kidneys, strengthen the back and knees, warm and hold qi in lungs and help kidneys to grasp the qi, moisten the intestines and move stool. It is believed to stop asthma. It is also used to help the elderly relieve constipation.

Other tree species notorious throughout time for their healing prosperities include: hawthorn, white willow, lime, elder and oak. Other well known trees used include horse chestnut, eucalyptus, walnut, gingko, cedar, witch hazel, olive, juniper, buckthorn, ash, holly, pine, beech, larch, elm, sweet chestnut, hornbeam, crab apple, aspen, birch and more!

The English Renaissance Period - the Impacts and Influences on Culture

London experienced a cultural and artistic movement in between early 16th and early 17th century which is known as the English Renaissance Period. The English Renaissance was much influenced by the pan-European Renaissance which is said to have originated in the 14th century in northern Italy. Often known as the "age of the Shakespeare" or "the Elizabethan era," the English Renaissance created stimulation in art, architecture, literature and music of whole of England. Renaissance also had great impact on the music. From renowned ballads to church songs and sophisticated court music, many inventive steps were taken and the music during the Renaissance period had become varied and more delightful. The comedy and tragedy plays used music to make it livelier. A new school of music also developed in this period which was known as the English Madrigal School. The English Madrigal was either copies of Italian musical works or their direct translations. Mostly in three to six voices, the English madrigals were light in style.
Renaissance also influenced the architectural style of that period. Emphasis was laid upon symmetry, proportion, geometry and on maintaining the regularity in the architecture. Inigo Jones is credited for propounding Renaissance architecture in England. He had studied architecture in Italy, the country influenced by the Andrea Palladio who transformed the architectural style of both palaces and churches. He designed great buildings such as the Queen’s House at Greenwich and the Banqueting House at Whitehall.
Even the style of making furniture was influenced by Renaissance. It cannot be denied that England was much influenced by the Italian style of art and architecture. Though Oak wood was used to make furniture but now apple, pear, chestnut, walnut, holly and pine were also used to improve the quality of the furniture. Earlier the ornate-furniture was only limited to the churches and ecclesiastical houses. With the improvement in the position of the citizen, English people also beautified their home with magnificent furniture.
However, many historians argue that English Renaissance was nothing but just a transition towards a modern world. They contend that English Renaissance does not level with the artistic achievements and aims similar to their Italian counterparts. The English literature had been seeing its growth since the time of Geoffrey Chaucer. Nevertheless, most of the historians still are of the opinion that there was an artistic flowering in London and other regions of England in the period between early 16th and early 17th century.

Once again the Western World prepares to celebrate the Winter Solstice, which usually falls around the 21st December.





This is a magical time of the year and throughout the ages of mankind religions have gravitated toward this date to hold major ceremonies, celebrations and sacred observations.





Our modern age strangely sees us returning to the age-old customs of noting and paying respect to the sacred cycles of nature and the part we play in it, for we are intrinsically tied to these cycles of nature whether we like to admit it or not, influenced by the stages of the moon with its ebb and flow of energy. The sun ' the life giver ' marks the days of death and decay back into regeneration and growth. None of us that live on this planet can escape Mother Nature, the Goddess and her womb, or Father Time, the God and his creation of all life from the elements. Light and dark, all is one, all religion, all life blessed be!





RETURN OF THE SUN/SON!





Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It marks the gradual return of the sun and signifies birth when new seeds of life will spring forth. Similarly, Christianity uses this time of year to mark the birth of the son, signifying life eternal for all who partake of the light and become the body of Christ.





A good way to remember this special Solstice is, as the hours of daylight grow, so too, we can let our inner light of understanding, love and intuitions grow. Allowing both the dark and the light to resonate within us, for it is part of us and we can practice new beginnings of unity, compassion, empathy and global love.





PREPARE FOR THE WINTER SOLSTICE





Spend the Solstice in candlelight, meditation, reflection and look forward to new dawn. Prepare some seasonal incense and an appropriate meditation for the magical night of dreams ahead. Decorate your home with the colors of winter; white to represent the winter snow, dark green winter foliage, red winter berries and fruits, gold to represent the returning energy of the sun and silver for the delicate frost that settles all around at this cold time of year. A Winter Solstice incense blend:





Fill A heatproof bowl with about an inch of sand or salt. Metals, stone & ceramics are ideal that have feet to hold them safely above a surface, or you can buy purpose made incense burners. Beware of hot ash falling when the incense burns, keep safe. Prepare by crushing the ingredients together.





CITRUS SOLSTICE





1 tbsp dried Orange Peel, 1 tbsp dried Grapefruit Peel, 1 tbsp dried Lemon Peel, 1 tbsp dried Tangerine Peel, 1 tsp Orange extract, 1 tsp Lemon extract.





WINTER SOLSTICE





One part Pine Needles, One part Cinnamon, One part Apple Rine, One part Myrrh, One part Frankincense

SEVEN REFLECTIONS WINTER SOLSTICE MEDITATION;





There is an Old Russian divination that took place on the evening of Winter Solstice where - usually a young lady - would set up two mirrors and two candles into a position that they would reflect each other. One should then peer into one of the mirrors and seek the seventh reflection, where she would catch a glimpse of her future or her one true love!





Find a comfortable place where you are least likely to be disturbed. Get your mirrors and candles ready, be sure to position them facing each other with the candles reflecting in each - use a stable, fireproof surface. Please take care that you cannot fall into the mirrors or candles as meditation can have a very hypnotic effect! Position them safely & far enough away.





You should sit facing the mirrors so that you can see into either mirror with the reflection of the other, if in a chair sit with your feet flat on the floor or sit in your usual meditation position. Do not hunch your back but sit upright and relaxed with your hands resting on your thighs. Start the sound session.





First, concentrate yourself fully on the following breathing technique (do this about five - ten times, you don't have to count ' do what feels right);





Take in a deep, slow breath, fill your lungs, expand your abdomen, hold for a few seconds then very slowly breathe out, try to take about twice as long to breathe out.





Now begin to look into one of the mirrors, whichever one is up to you, search for the seventh reflection. After a while the image may change in the mirror, other faces may be seen or other images. Allow your mind to go along with the experience and always write the details in a diary immediately afterwards - this is for later reflection and things may make sense later that were not obvious at the time.





THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION MEDITATION





Before beginning the meditation, read the following reading I personally got during meditation regarding 'THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION' and try to understand the message contained within.





"Every negative word, deed, glance, thought, and action will come back to you. It is the indisputable law, the law of attraction. If you play with it, study this in earnest, you will find it, without doubt, to be true.





Imaging you are communicating with the physical world via a mirror. The person who stares back at you is the equivalent of every other person in the world. Frown at the person in the mirror, the person frowns back at you. Become angry at the person, see what comes back to you, look at the anger on that face and look into the eyes. How does that make you feel ' good? Bad? Imagine a child being confronted with that face, those eyes, that anger. Imagine if that small child was you!





Smile and you receive the same, laugh and the image laughs with you. This is how we create our world, by reflection. This is a warning so don't discard it. Keep it with you and discover it!





But what if you are a child? You didn't yet throw anything into the water to cause a ripple. You were born in innocence! No! You chose to be a victim for a short time. You agreed in your ancient wisdom to become the effect of a cause and those who peer into the mirror will see you. Your reflection will call to action better judgment, better discernment and a better future for all."

Notice the expression, smiles, frowns, anger, study what comes back at you through the mirror.





Now allow yourself to absorb the powerful sounds and simply stare at the mirror. After a while the image may change, other faces may be seen or other images. Allow your mind to go along with the experience and write the details in a diary immediately afterwards Allow yourself to adjust when your meditation finishes and drink a fresh glass of water.

If one can take them out truly then the pineapple is ripe." "Go to sleep rather," laughed mother. "The ripeness of our pineapple is without any doubt - see for yourself how much energy it has given you!" "Oh Mama, why did you throw away the pineapple's top with leaves? We could have grown from it a new pineapple. It says in the book what kind of soil and what size of pot we need for that. And also it requires warm weather. Pineapples won't grow if the climatic characteristic is below 20 degrees."

"Verily, a very unusual pineapple my brother sent me," idea mom happily while seeing at the pleasant blushing face of her son. One won't believe that just a few days ago this same boy was so pale and weak."

From that time the boy's health started to heighten tremendously. His mom remembered everyday to give him fruits and juices. He grew up and became a learner of agricultural academy.

Within 10 years in that small Siberian town, where the boy lived, a harvest of exotic fruits, from pineapples to pomegranates started to appear in the shops. While bed and breakfast means anything from staying in someone's spare room to a lavish waterfront condo, careful research will help you find just the right bed and breakfast for you.





The truth is bed-and-breakfast inns vary wildly from house to house and from inn to inn, and it makes good sense to do some research on the property you'll be visiting. We all have our preferences and it's not hard to find a bed-and-breakfast that will suit your particular tastes. In our case, we've always preferred the bed-and-breakfast that is more inn than house, more private than communal. And here are a few of the bed-and-breakfast stays we have enjoyed the most:





Casa Tropicana Inn





If you want to tie in a beautiful Southern California beach with your bed-and-breakfast experience, the Casa Tropicana Inn in San Clemente is the place to go. Situated across the road from a gorgeous beach and San Clemente Pier, Casa Tropicana really couldn't be in a better location if the main purpose of your getaway is relaxation.





Known as the beach community where former president Richard Nixon had his Western White House, San Clemente is an oceanfront city of red-tile-roof Spanish style homes built with commanding views of the Pacific on land that almost seems like it was created to provide homeowners the best panoramic views on the Southern California coast. Spanish-named streets wind and weave their way down to the waterfront below where one of the most charming areas is the tiny enclave of shops, restaurants and vacation properties next to the San Clemente Pier.





It's there that you find the Casa Tropicana Inn, a five-story inn that is ideal for couples and fits right in with the Mediterranean motif of this quaint beachfront area. Each of the eight guest rooms is designed with many special attributes that include romantic touches like fireplaces, over-size Jacuzzi tubs, the highest quality linens and bed treatments and cozy robes, as well as more practical amenities such as refrigerators, flat screen televisions, DVD players and high-speed internet. Beyond that, the rooms each have individual amenities such as the ocean views and four-poster bed in the room we enjoyed called the Casita Arena.





We especially enjoyed the second-floor terrace just in front of our room that features tables where you can enjoy a cocktail or chairs where you can read a good book, all with the beach, pier and seemingly endless ocean horizon in full view.





Although the service in general was excellent, the Casa Tropicana is not where you go to have your innkeeper prepare a gourmet breakfast. In fact, the inn's breakfast is continental style with pastries, yogurt, orange juice and various snacks available for you anytime in the room. Even wine and champagne were available for us anytime and, unlike most mini-bars, these came at no extra charge.





But gourmet food is not very far away: On the first floor of the inn you'll find the White Horses Restaurant and Bar which boasts numerous dining awards, including being named the best gourmet restaurant in Orange County. Based on our dinner, we completely agree with the judges.





Our time spent in this beautiful beachfront environment was a feast for the senses - unbelievable views, small markets, sidewalk cafes, long beach walks and upscale shopping only minutes away in downtown San Clemente. Friends who joined us on this getaway also pronounced the Casa Tropicana the ideal couples getaway.

MacCallum House





When you visit Mendocino for the first time, this Northern California seascape just reaches out and touches your spirit. Perched high on a bluff overlooking the vast Pacific, Mendocino is not a big town - it's just what you might imagine a New England fishing village to look like. The town has a mixture of Cape Code homes and historic buildings, making it almost look like a theme town. Windswept trees, rolling grassy hills and steep cliffs are footsteps from the Village by way of several miles of coastal trails that are perfect for hiking and photography. Down below are remote beaches and the cragged, rocky shoreline.





In the Village you'll find a variety of eclectic shops - unusual records, one-of-a-kind musical instruments, vintage toys, you name it -- mingled with historic homes, inns and fine restaurants. One of those homes is the popular MacCallum House bed-and-breakfast inn, which has a strong connection with Mendocino history. The house was built in 1882 by Alexander MacCallum, a relative of one of the town's first settlers. Eventually the house was turned into a bed-and-breakfast inn





Our stay at MacCallum House was quiet and restful, and gave us a great chance to just walk down the block to visit the local merchants or to hike on over to the headlands where the trails offer breathtaking views of the coastline and the town itself. We stayed in the "Upper Barn Suite," a second-floor unit in a building across the lawn from the main house. This is the largest room on the MacCallum property and enjoys views of the ocean. The unit features a private deck as well as a stone fireplace, wet bar, refrigerator and a large living room in addition to the bed, bath and kitchen areas. Furnishings are generally antique ' or approaching antique.





Of course, dining at MacCallum House is a big part of the treat and, fortunately, we elected to have dinner there in addition to the breakfast that normally comes with your room. Both meals were well up to expectations. Breakfast might include a Butternut Squash Omelet or Red Potatoes with Cremini Mushrooms or, the entree we tried, Lupe's Breakfast Burrito, a delicious combination of apple-turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, white cheddar, onions, peppers and salsa on a fresh tortilla. Most of the dinner menu items highlight entrees that are regional and fresh.





You'll want to walk off those ample portions and there is no shortage of places in and near Mendocino to get some exercise. In addition to the previously mentioned trails, there are lots of areas where you can walk by rivers and streams and even enjoy Redwood forests.

Whispering Pines Lodge





Those people raised on TV westerns like Bonanza will feel like they've stepped right onto the Ponderosa when they take the one-hour drive northeast from Bakersfield to the town of Kernville. There's good reason: dozens of TV and movie westerns have been filmed in the immediate vicinity.





We spent a couple of nights in Kernville at a place that we would consider a "find." While most lodgings in town seem to be rather typical motel units, we stayed at one of three bed-and-breakfasts in town, the Whispering Pines Lodge. The Whispering Pines is a series of wood-frame buildings, each with several separate units. Our room was nicely appointed for a lodge that felt like it was out in the wilderness ' modern cedar and oak furniture, a king bed, double vanities in the bathroom, hardwood floors, framed paintings and flowers strategically positioned throughout the over-size room. The curtains opened to reveal a woodsy view of the riverfront, a deck with table and chairs and, of course, a panoramic view of the churning Kern River.





The constant sound of the river reminded us of a riverfront cabin we once owned and this just bolstered the feeling that we had truly escaped from the city. Downtown Kernville was perhaps just a quarter mile away but we felt like we were holed up in our own remote mountain cabin. It was ideal for relaxation -- or just reading a good book -- and we also loved walking the local trails.





After a restful night's sleep, we discovered one more reason that the Whispering Pines fills up quickly on weekends for the full breakfast that is served, buffet style, every day of the week. Bed-and-breakfasts seem to run the gamut from those offering a roll and some coffee to those priding themselves on both the quality and quantity of food they present. The Whispering Pines falls into the latter category with its bacon, sausages, eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, quiche, fruit, rolls, juices and coffee all served up tasty and fresh in an atmosphere that encourages you to go back and fill your plate again.
