Three Things to Rock Your Halloween Party

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Organizing a Halloween party is one of the fun things to do for the simple reason that there aren't rules to the decorations and you don't have to worry about anything going overboard. The house can never look too scary and there are tons of themes for you to choose from. Here are three essentials that can make or break a great Halloween party.

Atmosphere counts a lot, this means in addition to the music you'll want to pay close attention to the lighting, have some scary sound effects through out the house and add a smoke machine to boot. If you aren't up to renting one, you can use dry ice. Place lights (battery operated are best and easy to manage) in corners and behind vases.

Regardless of what kind of party it is, the food matters a lot; make an impression with it. Don't just serve bat cookies and pumpkin shaped lollypops. For a house full of people craving Halloween treats, gourmet chocolate baskets with chocolate strawberries, bananas, oranges and pineapples will be extremely unique.

The more detail you add to your decorations, the more impressive they'll look. Give rooms different themes and add jack o' lanterns to all the windows. You can use clothes stuffed with newspaper to create silhouettes of people in the windows, people being hanged, murdered or in different costumes. Don't forget to pay close attention to what you wear yourself at the party, how the host looks matters a lot. Don't just make do with a hat or mask, dress up so your guests don't feel like they've overdone it with their costumes.

Dipped Fruit offers a wide variety of chocolate dipped fruit gifts like chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered bananas etc. You will definitely like the chocolate covered fruit especially the chocolate strawberries.

The Glycemic Index - Part 3 - High and Low GI Food Examples

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

We have learned that high glycemic food choices can have a profound effect on blood sugar levels. High blood sugar, or glucose, is converted to fat if the glucose cannot be used by the body's cells. We also learned that by combining high glycemic food choices with low glycemic food choices or by combining with fats and/or proteins in the same snack or meal lowers the effect on blood sugar. For instance, a bowl of oatmeal has a high glycemic value but provides the benefits of fiber and nutrients. By adding some chopped nuts, low fat milk and perhaps some whole berries, you have a rounded meal with the fat, fiber, protein and daily nutritional intake that makes this combination a weight management program winner!

Here are some real-world examples of food items and where they appear on the Glycemic Index

High GI Food Examples

Breads - white, whole wheat, cornbread and virtually all baked goods

Pasta - All pasta is high GI but especially the larger sized pastas such as ziti, penne, lasagna, rigatoni, etc.

Cereals - Oats, corn, rice, millet and most dry sweetened cereals

Vegetables - Corn, Beets, Carrots, Potatoes (especially white potatoes and all products made from white potatoes such as potato flour products, instant or fresh mashed potatoes, French Fries, hash browns, baked potatoes, potato skins, potato)

Fruits - Watermelon, raisins, cantaloupe and almost all tropical varieties such as mangos, banana, pineapples, etc., canned fruits with juice or sweetened

Snacks - Any corn products, pretzels, rice cake, honey, jams and jellies, ice cream

Alcohol - Beer, liquor, wine (except for red wine in moderation of no more than 1 -2 glasses daily)

Others - Sugar-sweetened foods, hidden sugar sources like honey, molasses, corn syrup and its diet-unfriendly cousin, high fructose corn syrup, soft drinks, fruit juices, sweetened beverages like iced tea, milk (lactose)

Low GI Food Examples

Breads - Pumpernickel, rye, sourdough

Grains - Barley, Lentils, wild rice, bulgur, kasha

Pasta - Thin versions like angel hair, thin spaghetti, linguine

Cereals - Rice bran, any whole grain & unsweetened versions, high-fiber bran cereals

Vegetables - All except those listed above on the High GI List

Fruits - Cherries, grapes, apples, peaches, plums, strawberries, oranges, dried apricots

Snacks - Cheese, lean luncheon meats, nuts, olives, pickles

Protein Foods - Peanut butter (unsweetened), beans, legumes, eggs, soy or low-fat dairy products

Others - Low fat yogurt, artificially sweetened foods and beverages

All About Cauliflower Ware Pottery

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

The term cauliflower ware pottery applies to pottery made in the form and color of cauliflowers and other fruits and vegetables. The cauliflower form for pottery was developed in the eighteenth century by Josiah Wedgwood, in cooperation with Thomas Bentley and William Greatbach in response to the leaf-patterned porcelain wares that were being made at their time and were gaining popularity. Its distinct characteristics are its vegetable and fruit shapes and green and cream-colored glazes. Pottery of this form was inspired by an eccentric sixteenth century French potter Bernard Palissy who used naturalistic motifs in his craft. Examples of cauliflower ware pottery are usually teapots, bowls, jugs and tureens. Some of the pieces can also be seen in silver, copper and gold. During Wedgwood's days, pottery resembling fruits and vegetables became popular; some pieces took the shape of apples, berries, pineapples, pears, melons, asparagus and artichokes aside from cauliflower. Other colors of glazes used were pink, brown, light blue and purple-blue.

Cauliflower ware pottery is usually dense, opaque and durable. Some examples of early cauliflower pieces have a creamware body with fruit or vegetable designs on the exterior. Cauliflower ware pottery is closely related to majolica because the cauliflower form was emulated in the last half of the nineteenth century resulting in the mentioned type of pottery. This is evident in the pieces of pottery done by Thomas Minton which became all the rage in Paris during 1855 through an exhibition. At this time, new designs were being added, like birds, cupids, lilies, flowers, shells, dolphins, corals and tree branches.Twenty years later, the Wedgwood factory began producing more formal pieces for those with more conservative tastes. The term Palissy for palissy ware was dropped and Majolica became the popular name for this naturalist class of pottery pieces and many other potteries began producing pieces in this style. Hence, it will not be uncommon to find cauliflower or other-fruit-shaped wares called majolica.

There was a time when fruit and vegetable forms, as well as bright colors, became out of fashion; this was during the 1900's up to the 1970's. However, during the 1970's and 1980's a renewed appreciation for them in pottery arose and they became popular as pieces for gardens and kitchens.

Cauliflower ware pottery has quite a character. It can be rustic, although at the same time vibrant and charming. If you have a taste for bright, colorful pieces, you might consider choosing cauliflower ware as a statement object. This is what cauliflower ware pottery and majolica are known for.Cauliflower pottery pieces are eye-catching and can give an air of cheerfulness, playfulness and even a bit of quirkiness; it can also exude an air of comfort where they are aptly located.

Tomatillos: What Are They and How Do You Use Them?

Author: Yuri // Category:

The tomatillo, also known as the tomate verde, is a little green tomato that is highly popular in Mexican cuisine. This green fruit is also referred to as the Mexican Husk tomato because it is surrounded by parchment like paper. Once the paper is peeled and removed it resembles a green tomato. Used when they are green and firm, tomatillos are low in cholesterol, saturated fat, and sodium. They are also a good source of vitamins and minerals.

The flavor of a tomatillo is very distinct. The taste is citrus dominated with herbaceous after notes that are tangy yet sweet. Alone, the tomatillo is considered tart. However, when mixed with other ingredients like chilies or avocados, it tastes wonderful. This green tomato can be prepared either raw or cooked for salsas or guacamole. When cooking tomatillos, the tart flavor will be slightly reduced. To prepare tomatillos for cooking, remove the outer paper like skins and then soak for 15 minutes. Next, rinse them and place on a cookie sheet for roasting and drizzle with olive oil. Then put in a 350° F preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the tomatillos turn a golden, yellowish-green.

From salsa verde to jalapeno and tomatillo salsa, the recipes that include tomatillos are countless. This little fruit can be combined with red tomatoes in a thick traditional salsa with chunks of onions and chilies, or it can be mixed in with pineapples and mangoes to create a tangy fruit salsa. To balance the flavor of these tart little tomatoes, it is best to puree them in a food processor. Storing tomatillos is actually quite easy. This small green jewel can be bought in season and then stored whole in a resealable plastic freezer bag for up to six months.

When ready to prepare a recipe, simply get a couple from the freezer, thaw, peel, and roast. When judging how much salsa to make, just remember that one pound of tomatillos will produce roughly two and a half to three cups. Tomatillo salsas also make a great topping on grilled steak and chicken breasts. As for traditional dishes like enchiladas, tacos, and nachos, they will never be the same once paired with a salsa made with tomatillos.

Foods such as onion and garlic. They are high in sulphur content, which makes your semen taste bitter. You need not get rid of them totally from your diet. Old-Fashioned Pineapple Pound Cake Dessert

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

If you enjoy old-fashioned pineapple pound cake, I think you will appreciate this recipe from my grandmother. This is a really delicious dessert cake that I like to make and serve during the summer months.

If desired, you can make the recipe using the topping listed below, or you can completely omit it and leave the cake plain.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1/2 lb. butter, softened

2 3/4 cups granulated sugar

6 large eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 cup milk

3/4 cup canned un-drained crushed pineapples with juice

1/4 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar

1 cup crushed pineapples, drained

Tip: Do not substitute margarine for the butter.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening, butter and granulated sugar. Slowly add in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour with the baking powder and then add it to the creamed mixture, 1 large spoonful at a time, alternately with the milk. Stir in the vanilla extract and crushed pineapples with the juice, blend all ingredients well.

Lightly spray a 10" round tube pan with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the pound cake batter into the prepared baking pan and place in a cold oven. Turn the heat on to 325 degrees and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly touched.

To make the pineapple topping: In a large bowl, combine the confectioner's sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter and the 1 cup of drained crushed pineapples. Pour this mixture over your hot cake and then let it cool.

Grilled Bacon With Pineapple Recipe

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

If you are looking for cheap, easy appetizers, this recipe fulfills just that. The grilled bacon with pineapple is a cheap, easy appetizer that anyone can make, and even kids, under some supervision. Eat it at Hawaii-themed parties or have it as an appetizer in a dinner function.

What you will need for this delicious appetizer is really simple. All you will need is some back bacon and some pineapple cubes or rings. It is best if the pineapples were freshly cut, but if you do not have them, you can always get canned pineapples, where you can use the syrup for other purposes. Toothpicks or bamboo satay sticks are optional.

Basically, you will need to slice the bacon to the desired size. Cut them in strips which you will use to wrap around each cube of pineapple, or roll in the middle of the pineapple ring. Then, grill the bacon for about 2 to 3 minutes. Leave it to cool for a while because you will need to use your hands to wrap the pineapples up.

If you are planning to wrap the cubes of pineapple up with the bacon, simply fold the four edges of the bacon in one direction, leaving extra so that you can keep it in hold. Use a toothpick to hold the bacon slice to the pineapple. To make presentation interesting, you can poke them up around the surface of another pineapple fruit that is seated on a stand.

On the other hand, if you are planning to roll the bacon up in the middle of the ring, all you have to do is just that. Keep the roll in one and a half lap so the taste does not overwhelm the taste of the pineapple. You can poke bamboo satay sticks horizontally through the pineapple and bacon, and keep two of these per stick. Serve, and enjoy.

Spongebob Squarepants - Themed Birthday Party

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

Birthdays parties can be really fun and exciting when you have a theme. It allows you to become creative and give each guest a memorable experience. Here are some affordable, fantastic ideas you can implement in your child's birthday party - Bikini Bottom style!

Squarepants Invitations

You could make the invitation cards into the shape of the character Spongebob. Make the pants open up in a flip with all the invitation details. Every recipient will giggle when they find that Spongebob's Squarepants is removable, as often seen in the cartoon. Keep the wordings fun.

Krabby Patty Burgers and other Spongebob-themed Food

Show off your cooking skills as you prepare the 'Krabby Patty' burgers on the spot. You can have printable coupons available for your guests to exchange for the patties, just like how the oceanic creatures of Bikini Bottom pay for their food in Krusty Krab Restaurant. Of course, you should have extra printable coupons readily available for your guests to 'buy' more food. Remember to have someone to impersonate Squidward to collect these coupons. Other food you can include are pineapples, one like Spongebob's home, and other food that reminds you of the sea, like sushi.

Bikini Bottom Oceanic Creatures

Make paper masks for everyone to wear. They should be characters from the cartoon. Be it Spongebob, Patrick, Squiward, Eugene Krabs, Sheldon Plankton, Sandy Cheeks, or even Gary, everyone gets their favorite character. You can enquire which character they would like from the invitation's RSVP. Do not forget to practice lines from the cartoon to keep the mood real.

Under the Sea

Decorate the venue to look like it is under the sea. Decorate it with sea shells and pebbles made out of paper mache if you do not have real ones available. Put strips of blue paper sticking down from the ceiling to symbolize the ocean, and put cardboards cut to look like seaweed on the ground. You can even have balloons of jellyfishes floating up to the ceiling.

With a Spongebob-themed party, everyone will have a blast of a time!

The Best Foods to Improve Hearing

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Many believe that age-related loss of hearing is inevitable, that it should occur as we get older but did you know that by including certain foods in your diet you can improve hearing? You heard me right, hearing can be improved not only by reducing exposure to noise, having implants, having hearing aids, or by having your ears regularly cleaned by professionals but also by making lifestyle changes particularly in the kind of food you eat.

Studies have shown that those suffering from varying degrees of hearing loss also suffer from nutritional deficiency as well. Improve hearing by including the foods that will be mentioned later in this article in your daily diet and you will have gone many steps forward not only in benefiting your ears but your overall physical health as well.

Food rich in Vitamin D will help improve hearing because Vitamin D is responsible for the absorption of calcium which is required for us to have strong bones. Lack of this vitamin causes osteopenia in adults, a condition where the bones of the ears harden and become porous.

Sources of Vitamin D: cod liver oil, fish oil, salmon, mackerel, tuna fish, liver, and egg yolk.

Food rich in Vitamin A in combination with Vitamin C and E and magnesium work together to prevent the formation of free radicals that form during noise exposure. Studies have further shown that exposure to noise also lessens blood circulation to the inner ear.

The vitamins and mineral mentioned also works by scavenging and destroying these free radicals.

Sources of Vitamin A: a) vegetables that are dark green and yellow and yellow fruits like broccoli, squash, spinach, turnip greens, carrots, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and apricots; b) animal sources are liver, milk, butter, cheese, and whole eggs.

Sources of Vitamin C: fresh vegetables and fruits like broccoli, green and red peppers, cauliflower, cabbage, collard greens, brussel sprouts, lemon, pineapples, strawberries, citrus fruits.

Sources of Vitamin E: wheat germ, green leafy vegetables, margarine and vegetable oil (soybean, corn, safflower, and cottonseed).

Sources of Magnesium: dairy products, meat, fish, poultry, green vegetables, legumes.

Interrupted or poor blood circulation, high blood pressure, and stiffening of the bones in the middle ear, are some of the causes of tinnitus or ringing in the ears, a condition that is often associated with hearing loss.

Food rich in Vitamin B12 or cobalamine help improve hearing by regulating the formation of red blood cells, assisting in the metabolism of homocysteine, and preventing tinnitus.

Sources of Vitamin B12: dairy products, eggs, lean beef, shellfish

Food rich in Folic Acid lowers the production of homocysteine which is thought to be the cause of some kinds of hearing loss and boosts circulation of blood to the inner structures of the ear.

Sources of Folic Acid: beef liver, spinach, asparagus, green peas, broccoli, avocado, lettuce, peanuts, tomato juice, whole eggs, strawberries, papaya, banana, and cantaloupe.

Food rich in Manganese also improve hearing because this mineral aids in the formation of connective tissues, and bones, plus it is also necessary for the normal functioning of the brain and nerves. If you have low levels of manganese, you will likely be suffering from tinnitus.

Sources: apples, apricots, avocado, beans, pineapples, berries, raisins, celery, egg yolks, legumes, and pine nuts

Not only should you consider your food intake, you should also consider the tools that you use to communicate everyday. Italian Wedding Theme

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Whether you and your fiancé are of Italian heritage or want to try something unique a theme for your wedding, then you may want to consider an Italian wedding theme. An Italian-inspired wedding is more than just any other wedding theme. Food is the heart of the celebration, which can have as many as fourteen dishes.

When planning an Italian wedding theme, you can slightly pare down about five to seven courses. Usually, beef or chicken is served as the main dish although you may substitute them with Italian sausage or pork. Serve an array of side dishes such antipasto, cheese, pasta, vegetables and seafood. Have Italian bread and fresh fruits like kiwi, sweet pineapples, grapes and strawberries as well. Moreover, you can pile a table high with Italian cookies or have sweet, delectable treats such as fried dough drizzled with powdered sugar. These treats are said to bring prosperity to the wedding couple.

An Italian-style wedding cake usually has several layers with figures of the bride and groom on top of the cake. It is best served with Italian coffee. Don't forget to serve plenty of Italian wine too. Merlot and Chianti are excellent wine picks.

Music sets a great mood for your Italian-inspired wedding. Play to the tune of Italian opera singers beginning the reception and during dinner. Then, when it is time to dance, switch to upbeat Italian music.

When choosing a location, a quaint church or a historic mansion would be an excellent choice. You can also hold your wedding ceremony in a lush garden or overlooking acres of grapes. And since Italians are predominantly Roman Catholics, a mass is usually observed.

Also, a white Italian-silk wedding gown with a train is traditionally worn by the bride to represent purity. You may, however, go for an ivory gown, but you should probably stick with any of these colors. Also, a white tulle veil is important for the Italian wedding ceremony too. This is traditionally worn to cover the bride's face until it is the groom's moment to kiss her. In addition, the bride should have a tiny satin bag handy during the wedding rites. This is where she will stash the money that her guests will hand her.

Of course, no Italian wedding is ever complete without giving away small tokens to guests. You can hand out colorful candy almonds in small tulle wrappers and tied with satin ribbons. Also known as confetti, this traditional Italian treat is a great way to let your guests to cherish your beautiful Italian-inspired wedding.

Picking 8th Grade Science Projects

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

As kids are getting to the end of junior high, it's very common to take part in science fairs. Of course, this doesn't mean that they have to be excellent in the area of science, as there are a good amount of easy experiments that will still help them to truly grasp the concepts of the scientific process while having fun at the same time. In the case of 8th grade science projects, you can either do something related to what has been taught in class or you can go with something that will be learned about down the road.

Some decent starting places include testing what soap water does to plants. Students could record how different plants react to different concentrations of soap in the water. Another experiment idea is to test the different chemicals that are recommended to be put in the water with goldfish. Finding out whether or not they're necessary could prove to be an interesting challenge. Other great 8th grade science projects in the past have involved messing around with plants. For example, could you graft a potato plant with a bell pepper or a tomato? These types of experiments really get students' minds rolling.

Of course, for those that don't mind insects, they might consider testing out different repellents on cockroaches, such as DEET. For those that are interested in cooking you can test out whether or not Jello can be made with fresh pineapples, given that all recipes call for them to be canned. What seems like simple concepts can actually make very unique and creative 8th grade science projects. Along those lines, figuring out how the shape of an ice cube affects how quickly or slowly it will melt is usually something that students enjoy figuring out and understanding.

Upon hearing ideas like these, students usually start thinking of their own clever experiments. This opens up their minds to wonder about other things, and then they'll start to see how applicable science really is in their lives. In other words, 8th grade science projects aren't just about being fun and learning, they're about making everything relevant to the students, which ultimately is what they will take away from the class.

Tropical Fruit

Author: Yuri // Category:

Tropical fruit is not only exotic, but also provides some variety to your diet. Coconuts. Pineapples. Mangos. Papayas. These fruits are just some examples of the many tropical fruit varieties you can find in the exotic fruit section of your supermarket. Have you only admired tropical fruit from afar? Here is some advice on using the fruits.

Smoothies

All the tropical fruits are tasty in smoothies, especially pineapples, mangos, and papayas. Just mix one cup of fruit in any combination with one cup milk, one tablespoon honey, and a few ice cubes. If you use frozen tropical fruit, you can omit the ice cubes. Using frozen tropical fruit instead of ice actually enhances the flavor of the smoothie.

Salsa

Mangos, pineapples, and papayas are especially tasty when incorporated into a salsa. Mangos especially seem to blend well with other salsa ingredients such as jalapeno peppers and cilantro. Serve your tropical fruit salsa on chicken or fish or with tortilla chips.

Tropical Fruit Salad

Tropical fruit also makes a great fruit salad. Just clean and chop the tropical fruit of your juice into bite sized pieces. An example of a good tropical fruit salad combination includes one cup each of pineapple, mango, and papaya, and kiwi fruit chopped. Toss with ½ cup coconut shavings. Make a dressing out of ½ cup pineapple juice, ¼ cup orange juice, and 1 tablespoon honey. Pour over salad and toss.

Tropical fruit on the grill

You can also pierce skewers through various combinations of tropical fruit and warm the grill for a few minutes on each side. This is a good accompaniment to grilled meats and fish. For example, you can serve skewered pineapples with chicken that was marinated in a teriyaki sauce made with pineapple juice. Grilled papayas go well when combined with grilled swordfish or halibut. Grilled mangos are especially tasty when paired with salmon or shrimp.

Tropical Fruit in your Diet

When trying to include tropical fruit in your diet, you aren't restricted to eating it raw. Incorporating it into your meals can give your taste buds some variety while enhancing your overall health.

Making Good Smoothies

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Smoothies are drinks made from fruits and vegetables, mixed with some liquids. Based on the healthy ingredients that go into them, we can categorically say that all smoothies are good smoothies. Although this might be true, the needs and preferences of those who will drink it must also be given consideration. Therefore, good smoothies are those smoothies that are not only rich in taste but in nutrition as well.

Because people have varied tastes, there is no single recipe for a perfect smoothie. For the beginner, a good way to start is to blend together a cup of fruit juice, a cup of water or ice and ice cubes. Preference is the best guide for what ingredient to put next into the blender. The options are unlimited and one can be as creative as possible. But even if the choices are numerous, it is still helpful to have some suggestions on making good smoothies.

Individuals differ in how they want their smoothie consistencies to be; some like it very creamy while others like theirs to be somewhat watery. If rich smoothies are desired, then frozen fruit would be an ideal ingredient; and yogurt can be added instead of just milk. There are also fruits that make the drinks thicker, such as bananas and pineapples. Incorporating fruit peels also results in creamier good smoothies. Those who like putting in these fruits into their smoothies but find them too creamy could just add more ice cubes to thin them down. A healthier recommendation is to add water-based fruits and vegetables like carrots, oranges, grapes and watermelon. In this way, flavor and nutrition is enhanced too.

Blending fruits to find those ideal good smoothies applies the principle of "less is more". This is because mixing up all the ingredients could amplify flavor. It is best to use the ingredients sparingly at first, and then adding little by little until the preferred taste is achieved.

Good smoothies do not only taste good, they also provide adequate nutrients to the body. This is especially vital for those people who drink smoothies as a meal replacement. This means that the smoothies would have to be very healthful if it is to be made a substitute for the usual nutrients that one can obtain from a regular meal. If this is the case, then adding vegetables to the good smoothies is a must. Nutrition enhancers should be also combined with the other ingredients. Examples of these are tofu, peanut butter or nuts for additional protein; and green tea for extra anti-oxidants. Tofu is a great additive because it is tasteless and will absorb whatever flavors are present in the smoothie. Most importantly, it adds to the nutritional value of the drink, making transforming good smoothies into better ones.

Finding that perfect smoothie is not a one-shot deal. Rather, it is the result of many trial and error attempts that could prove daunting to some. However, the health benefits that are obtained make them all worthwhile.

Discover Hesperidin: Super Bioflavonoid Nutrient

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

All about Hesperidin

What is Hesperidin?

Hesperidin is a bioflavonoid. Bioflavonoids are water-soluble nutrients that are found in some fruits -- especially citrus -- and various leafy green vegetables.

Other well known bioflavonoids include quercitin and rutin.

Benefits

Hesperidin, along with other bioflavanoids, can improve
the health of capillaries and connective tissues. Because of this, it has been noted to help with bruising, varicose veins, and fragile capillaries.

Other benefits include a purported ablility to alleviate hay fever and other such allergies. Some studies suggest bioflavanoids like hesperidin and quercitin do this by inhibiting the release of histamine.

Hesperidin is an important nutrient that works synergistically with Vitamin C to maintain the health of collagen. Sagging and wrinkling of the skin is the consequence of the breakdown of collagen.

Precautions

Because it is not considered an essential nutrient, there is no RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) set.

Various studies have indicated that there doesn't seem to be an issue of toxicity.

As for dosage amount, we would generally suggest refraining from using mega-doses -- 500 mgs or above.

A dosage of between 10 mgs and 100 mgs seems much more reasonable.

Hesperidin works synergistically with Vitamin C, as mentioned above, to maintain the health of collagen, and the health enzyme Bromelain (derived from pineapples) enhances its absorption. Therefore, all 3 nutrient should be taken together for maximum efficacy. In addition, it is desirable to take it with other prominent bioflavonoids, quercitin and rutin to achieve maximum impact.

Just make sure that the product you purchase is produced to pharmaceutical GMP standards, which is the industry gold standard.

Canker Sores

Author: Yuri // Category:

These sores are usually found in the mouth. It could be on the roof of the mouth, beneath the tongue (on the soft palate), inside the chick, on the inside of the lips or beneath the gum.

Canker sores are usually very painful and will go away between 7-10 days.
There is no known cure for these sores, neither is there a known cause for them. Unlike the cold sores, these are not contagious and you need not worry if a member of your family or a close friend has them.

Canker sores usually present themselves as a whitish lesion with a red border, a small bump or red spot which produces a slight burning/tingling sensation.

What causes canker sores? The following are some of the causes;

1. Braces could break the mucous membrane causing an infection

2. Weak immune system

3. Allergic response

4. Inflammatory bowel diseases

5. Certain food stuff eg. chocolate, coffee, strawberries, nuts, cheese etc.

6. Hormonal shifts during menstruation periods

7. Highly acidic foods such as pineapples

8. Emotional stress

9. HIV AIDS suppresses the immune system

There are two types of canker sores, minor sores and major sores. When you have minor sores, you will notice an oval lesion in your mouth, under your tongue or inside the chick which should clear between 1-2 weeks leaving no scar. Major sores however present themselves as large lesions and can last for a month or even years. They heal leaving an
extensive scar.

What are the symptoms of canker sores? These include fever, listlessness, swollen glands. It is best therefore that you make sure that your immune system is at its peak to avoid this infection and other opportunistic infection.

Enzymes to Help With Digestion

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Most raw food, like our bodies, is very perishable. When raw foods are exposed to temperatures above 116 degrees, they start to rapidly break down, just as our bodies would if we had a fever that high. One of the constituents of foods which can break down are enzymes. Enzymes help us digest our food. Enzymes are proteins though, and they have a very specific 3-dimensional structure in space. Once they are heated much above 118 degrees, this structure can change.

Once enzymes are exposed to heat, they are no longer able to provide the function for which they were designed. Cooked foods contribute to chronic illness, because their enzyme content is damaged and thus requires us to make our own enzymes to process the food. The digestion of cooked food uses valuable metabolic enzymes in order to help digest your food. Digestion of cooked food demands much more energy than the digestion of raw food. In general, raw food is much more easily digested that it passes through the digestive tract in 1/2 to 1/3 of the time it takes for cooked food.

Eating enzyme-dead foods places a burden on your pancreas and other organs and overworks them, which eventually exhausts these organs. Many people gradually impair their pancreas and progressively lose the ability to digest their food after a lifetime of ingesting processed foods.

Lack of digestive enzymes can be a factor in food allergies. Symptoms of digestive enzymes depletion are bloating, belching, gas, bowel disorders, abdominal cramping, heartburn and food allergies.

Digestive enzymes are proteins specially tailored to break down foods into nutrients that your body can then readily digest. The human body produces some 22 different digestive enzymes. Many more are found in the fruits, vegetables, meats, grains, and other foods.

When you eat a meal, digestive enzymes that are released from your salivary glands, stomach, and small intestine immediately get to work to speed up the digestive process. Each enzyme acts on a specific type of food.

Bromelain

Derived from the stems of pineapple, it is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. This natural digestive enzyme may also be helpful as a diet aid. Pineapples have had a long tradition as a medicinal plant among the natives of South and Central America.

DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root)

A natural antacid, where the glycirrhizinic acid component of the root has been removed. DGL may stimulate our bodies defense mechanisms resulting in improved quality of mucous, lengthening of intestinal cell life and enhanced microcirculation in the gastrointestinal lining.

Papaya

A tropical fruit containing active enzymes that help improve digestive and metabolic functions. Derived from the fruit, inner bark and stems, Papaya Enzymes contain a high concentration of papain, a protein-digesting enzyme that quickly metabolizes the protein in foods.

Trying to Conceive With Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

Trying to conceive with blocked fallopian tubes can be very frustrating, but it is possible. You may have heard of dangerous and expensive surgeries to help correct the problem but there are natural, and safe ways you can improve your chances of becoming pregnant, even if one or both of your fallopian tubes are blocked.

There are number of reasons why fallopian tubes become blocked. Previous surgery, infection thanks to appendictis or endomitrosis, or pelvic inflammatory diseases among other reasons.

So what can you do? Well you're going to have to determine what it is that is blocking your tubes, and then work on ways to clear up the problem.

If scar tissue is an issue the use of Bromelain over a period of time has shown to decrease the amount of scar tissue and open up the tubes. Bromelain comes from pineapples and has been shown to help with digestion, as well as inflammation.

Additionally, another thing you can try is a mineral water douche. Mineral water can be used to draw out foreign objects and waste that may have built up in the fallopian tubes. Only mineral water is used in the douche process.

Using around 2 ounces of mineral water, and a slant board, you can retain the water for about 10 minutes. You can do this a couple of times a day for about a week, and it will help remove any excess waste.

Finally, if you're not getting enough water, fallopian tubes can simply become dehydrated. By drinking plenty of water each day, you can help to ensure good tubal health and increase your chances of becoming pregnant.

There are other things you can do to help increase your chances of pregnancy, even with blocked fallopian tubes. That's why I recommend visiting http://www.get-pregnant-fast.info

Here you'll discover all you need to know to overcome infertility and get pregnant fast using completely safe and holistic methods.

Post Workout Nutrition: Secrets to a Hard, Lean Body

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

As you've probably heard before, your post-workout meal may very well be your most important meal of the day. The reason is that when you're finished with an intense workout, you're entering a catabolic state where your muscle glycogen is depleted and increased cortisol levels are beginning to excessively break down muscle tissue. These conditions are not good and the only way to reverse this catabolic state (and promote an anabolic state) is to consume a quickly digestible post-workout meal as soon as you can after training. The goal is to choose a meal with quickly digestible carbs to replenish muscle glycogen as well as quickly digestible protein to provide the amino acids needed to jump start muscular repair. The surge of carbohydrates and amino acids from this quickly digested meal promotes an insulin spike from the pancreas, which shuttles nutrients into the muscle cells.

The post-workout meal should generally contain between 300-500 calories to get the best response. For example, a 120-lb female may only need a 300-calorie meal, whereas a 200-lb male may need a 500-calorie post-workout meal. Your post-workout meal should also contain anywhere from a 2:1 ratio of carbs:protein to a 4:1 ratio of carbs:protein. While most of your other daily meals should contain a source of healthy fats, keep the fat content of your post-workout meal to a bare minimum, since fat slows the absorption of the meal, which is the opposite of what you want after a workout.

When choosing what to make for your post-workout meal, the first thing to realize is that you DON'T need any of these expensive post-workout supplement formulations that the magazines (who advertise for them) will tell you that you absolutely NEED! As with any nutritional strategies, natural is always better. A good source of quickly digestible natural carbs such as frozen bananas, pineapples, raisins, honey, or organic maple syrup are perfect to elicit an insulin response that will promote muscle glycogen replenishment and a general anabolic (muscle building) effect. The best source of quickly digestible protein is a quality non-denatured whey protein isolate and/or some fat-free or low-fat yogurt. Here are a couple ideas for delicious post-workout smoothies that will kick start your recovery process:

Chocolate Banana - blend together 1 cup water, ½ cup skim milk, one and a half frozen bananas, 2 tbsp organic maple syrup, and 30 grams chocolate whey protein powder - 38 g prot, 72 g carb, 0.5 g fat, 440 calories.

Pineapple Vanilla - blend together 1 cup water, ½ cup vanilla yogurt, one cup frozen pineapples, 2 tbsp honey (preferably raw), and 30 grams vanilla whey protein powder - 35 g prot, 71 g carb, 0.5 g fat, 425 calories.

When looking to lose body fat, keep in mind that post-workout meals should have the opposite characteristics of all of your other meals throughout each day. While post-workout meals should have quick high glycemic index carbs, quickly digested proteins, and minimal fat, all of your other meals throughout the day should be comprised of low glycemic index, slowly digested carbs, slow release proteins, and ample healthy fats. These are powerful strategies towards developing a lean muscular body with a low body fat percentage. Another great thing about post-workout meals is that you can satisfy even the worst sweet tooth, since this is the one time of the day where you can get away with eating extra sugars without adding to your gut. Instead, it all goes straight to the muscles! Enjoy!

Traditionally every morning during the month of Elul the Shofar, a trumpet, is blown. Prayers and religious poems are said during the two day celebration. Typical menu items will include Apple Galette, Bread, Apple walnut tortes, lemon roasted chicken, and fish fillet with leeks. You will also find lamb on the menu during Rosh Hashanah.

You will cook the vegetables until they are no longer coarse, brown the onion, and fry the lamb. Once each ingredient is combined, you will then bake the lamb in the oven at 450 degrees for an hour.

Fruit is also very important for the celebration. You will find dates, oranges, grilled apples, pineapples, figs, and melons are apart of many dishes as well as eaten by themselves. They are a delicious and healthy way to balance out the fried foods and pies also commonly enjoyed.

There are so many ideas and homemade recipes for wrinkle removal and Anti-wrinkle products and treatments on the net. Anti-wrinkle injections are also very common, and to turn back the clock many go for surgical face lift mask & anti aging skin care products.

It is also know that some apply coconut oil on the skin and face where wrinkles set in and gently massage every night at bedtime. Others suggest that to use banana as an anti-wrinkle treatment. What they did was basically mash the banana until it is very creamy. Spread the banana "Paste" over the face and leave it for 20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. It was also believe that applying green pineapples juice and apples the face daily and leave for 10-15 minutes works excellent for fine wrinkles and cracked skin.

But the most important thing is still the result of diet. Research has shown that your diet can influence the way you look and feel. A healthy diet can help to delay the advent of aging and wrinkles and is definitely true that a healthy and balanced diet protects your skin from damage and aging.

DIY Anti-Wrinkle Recipe: Use Red tea leaves, brown sugar and flour for Anti-Wrinkle Mask.

Liver Cancer - Healing Your Liver Naturally

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

The liver has two vital functions in your body:

It transforms all the nutrients, fats, proteins and sugars you consume into energy.
It is the waste treatment centre of your body. All excess nutrients and food by-products are either recycled and stored for future use or sent to the disposal unit - the bowels.

You can just imagine the sight and odour of the mixture of waste materials in the liver. All the rotting food waste after the stomach and intestines have sucked out all the nutrients they need to nourish your body. What a great place for destructive bacteria and cancer forming cells to breed. Rotting vegetable and plant matter produces an alkaline solution, whereas rotting animal products are acidic when mixed with digestive juices.

Acidic/alkaline levels are measured on a pH reading of zero to fourteen. Pure water is neutral with a pH of 7.0, under seven is acidic and over seven is alkaline. When the body is acidic cancer cells are more likely to grow, but they die off in an alkaline environment. Vegetables, fruit, berries and nuts as they pass through the digestive system leave an alkaline ash. Even when they start off in their natural state as acidic, like citrus fruits, tomatoes and pineapples they are alkaline after they mingle with digestive juices and pass through the intestines. On the other hand, animal products and many processed foods leave an acidic ash as they pass through the body.

The optimal pH of your blood is 7.4. This is when the body is able to perform at its peak, properly absorbing the essential minerals and nutrients from the food we eat. When your blood is too acidic it won't be able to process nutrients from food properly. Without adequate nutrients your body will not be able to fight cancerous and other degenerative cells in order to protect and heal itself of diseases.

Green leafy vegetables are rich in essential minerals and are the most alkalising foods. Eating more greens will alkalise your body fast. When the acid/alkaline levels of your digestive system is in balance your metabolism works efficiently to eliminate toxins and waste before it rots. Otherwise your body will get stressed trying to neutralise the acidic foods you eat and you get sick. When we have a virus it is the body's way of eliminating excess acid and mucus from our body. However, isn't it better that we don't consume foods that create the mucus in the first place?

Eat well & stay healthy!

Six Smoothie Recipes For Constipation and Acne Relief

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

I recommend drinking a morning smoothie if you have constipation or if you have skin problems like acne. Drinking a high fiber smoothie relieves and prevents constipation. It will also provide the nutrients that are necessary for having or keeping a nice clean and smooth skin.

So, here are the six smoothie recipes you can blend.

* Apple Smoothie
* Apple-Barley Smoothie
* Apricot Smoothie
* Peach-Rice Dream Smoothie
* Pineapple Smoothie
* Strawberry Smoothie

Apple Smoothie

Mix in the blender the following.

1-2 small apples cut into wedges
1 banana
1 cup 50:50 rice dream: almond milk
¼ cup or less of raisins soaked overnight
1-teaspoon honey
1-2 cubes of ice
1-teaspoon lecithin granules
2 tablespoons flax seed oil

Start by mixing the banana and the liquids. Then add slices of apples to get the consistency you like. In all of your smoothies add flax seed oil for nice smooth skin. I also add a tablespoon of flax seed straight into the blender and the blender will chop them up.
Apple-Barley Smoothie

Mix in the blender the following.

1 cup of sliced apples with peel
1/2 cup of cooked barley
1/4 cup of soaked raisins
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring
1-1 ½ cup of 50:50 rice dream: almond milk
1-teaspoon lecithin granules
2 Tablespoons flax seed oil

Make sure you use the lecithin granules in these smoothies since lecithin helps to breakdown the flax oil into tiny droplets and makes it more digestible.

Apricot Smoothie

One cup of fresh apricots or dried apricots that were soaked overnight
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
Two oz. of prune juice
One teaspoon or more of oat ban
One teaspoon of mineral whey
One tablespoon of flax seed oil
One tablespoon of lecithin granules

Add a slight amount of distilled water or ice cubes to make the consistency to your liking. This smoothie is good for constipation and acne.

Peach-Rice Dream Smoothie

Mix in the blender:

2 fresh peaches with peel
1-cup rice dream
1/2 banana
1-teaspoon sesame seeds
1-teaspoon sunflower seed
1-tablespoon lecithin granules
2 tablespoons flax seed oil

In place of rice dream you can use almond milk. I now only use almond milk to make my smoothies. Place all of the seeds straight into the blender. This smoothie has plenty of fiber. You may want to increase the amount of sesame and sunflower seeds.

Pineapple Smoothie

Mix the following in a blender.

1-2 cups of fresh pineapples
1/2 cups apple slices
1/4-cup fresh apple juice
1/2-cup almond milk (more or less as needed)
1 banana
1-tablespoon lecithin
2-tablespoons flax seeds
2 teaspoons bran (wheat, oat or rice)

You can add more lecithin if you like. Lecithin does not have a taste. This smoothie is jam packed with fiber.

Strawberry Smoothie

Mix in a blender the following ingredients.

1 banana
1-tablespoon of lecithin granules
1-teaspoon of any type of bran
1 cup or more 50:50 rice dream: almond milk
Now add strawberries one by one with the blender on until you get the consistency you like.
1-tablespoon flax seeds
1 or 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
1-teaspoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon of flax seed oil

You can add liquid minerals or vitamins to these smoothies and give them an additional nutritional value.

There you have the smoothies that I make. Start making and drinking them and see the health benefits that you'll get.

Tips For Making A Fruit Salad

Author: Yuri // Category:

Although fruit is best when consumed on an empty stomach, a fruit salad, nevertheless, is a great alternative to other sugar-laden desserts that are often served after a big meal. Fruit salads are also great for in between meals as a snack, or even consumed as a meal. They are tasty and are able to provide the body with lots of energy, as they are high in natural sugars.

Making a fruit salad is very quick and easy to do. Just about anything goes when making a salad with fruit, and thus you can use whatever fruits and berries that you have on hand, and the salad will taste great. Nonetheless, here are some tips to help you get started with making your own fruit salads.

Use Fresh Fruits

Even though some fruits and berries freeze well, you should always aim for fresh fruits when making a salad. The flavor of fresh fruits is much better, as they don't have that freezer aftertaste. To avoid the fruits from going bad on you, never buy more than what you will eat within the next few days. This will also save you money, as you won't be throwing any fruits out.

Allow the Salad to Sit

After cutting up the fruits, combine them in a big bowl and allow them to sit for about an hour or two. Doing so will allow all the flavors to blend, which makes for a super tasty salad. However, do not allow the salad to sit for too long, as the longer it sits, the more nutrients are lost. Depending on how fresh the fruits are when you make it, you can store the fruit salad in the fridge for a day or two.

Use a Dressing

Just because it is a fruit salad, does not mean that you cannot use a dressing to bring out even more flavors. You can use a blend of fresh juices from other fruits such as mangoes, pineapples, apples, kiwi, pomegranates and oranges. You can also juice ginger, peppermint and other herbs that go well with fresh fruits.

Honey or agave nectar also go great with fresh fruits. You can mix them up with fresh juices, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, peppermint, lavender and a hint of sea salt for a rich fruit salad dressing. Once you discover what ingredients you like, simply mix them together and drizzle over the salad.

There are also many other ways to enjoy a fruit salad. You can experiment by adding nuts and seeds, yogurt, sour cream or any other food that you enjoy.
