How to Flavor Plain Yogurt

When it is healthy food, it is usually not delicious. Even though yogurt is one of the healthiest foods available, sometimes plain yogurt might not be the best option, especially for kids.

But, there's a simple solution to that; flavored yogurt. So, if your family and kids are reluctant to having plain yogurt every day, give them a treat by offering yummy flavored yogurt. Add a variety of flavors, canned and fresh fruits or syrups in plain yogurt and make it a really delightful serving for your family.

You might not want to eat commercial additives present in ready-made stuff, so the best option is to add your own flavors at home. And the great thing is that it will save your money too!

Here are a few simple steps to making flavored yogurt at home.

Individual servings are usually expensive to purchase. So, you can go for big quantity of plain yogurt. Purchase at least quart size or quantity according to your requirement. Purchasing plain yogurt this way can help you save money. It would be better if you can make it of your own.
For flavoring, you will need sugar, syrups and some fruits. You can use sugar syrup or confectioner's sugar because it mixes well with yogurt. If you are looking for adding some other syrup, go for thick flavored syrups so that they do not dilute the yogurt too much. To flavor your yogurt, start with tasting it. This might not taste very good, but you will have a fair idea about its taste. Take out about half bowl of it, add half teaspoon of sugar and mix well. Alternatively, use the desired syrup instead of sugar. When you feel that the quantity is appropriate and it tastes good, add sugar or syrup in whole yogurt, multiplying the syrup's quantity with equal multiples. Now place this in refrigerator to get chilled.
One thing that you should keep in mind that the syrup flavor must work well with the fruits to be added. You can choose fruits like strawberries, bananas, cherries, pineapples, apricots, apples, or anything you want to. Wash the fruits, peel them, cut into proper sizes and put into refrigerator to get chilled. You can also use some canned fruits.
When you are ready to serve the dessert, immediately add the fruits to the flavored yogurt. You can also add some crunchy toppings to garnish your serving. Chocolate chips, granola and crushed cookies can be used for garnishing.

So, your tasty and healthy flavored yogurt dessert is ready to delight your family and kids. Do not tell them that this is going to make them healthy; otherwise they might not enjoy it. Let them have fun after dinner and consider it as a treat.

You can also try making frozen yogurt. Your kids will definitely love it, and they will take the same healthy nutrition value of plain yogurt from frozen yogurt.
