Liver Cancer - Healing Your Liver Naturally

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

The liver has two vital functions in your body:

It transforms all the nutrients, fats, proteins and sugars you consume into energy.
It is the waste treatment centre of your body. All excess nutrients and food by-products are either recycled and stored for future use or sent to the disposal unit - the bowels.

You can just imagine the sight and odour of the mixture of waste materials in the liver. All the rotting food waste after the stomach and intestines have sucked out all the nutrients they need to nourish your body. What a great place for destructive bacteria and cancer forming cells to breed. Rotting vegetable and plant matter produces an alkaline solution, whereas rotting animal products are acidic when mixed with digestive juices.

Acidic/alkaline levels are measured on a pH reading of zero to fourteen. Pure water is neutral with a pH of 7.0, under seven is acidic and over seven is alkaline. When the body is acidic cancer cells are more likely to grow, but they die off in an alkaline environment. Vegetables, fruit, berries and nuts as they pass through the digestive system leave an alkaline ash. Even when they start off in their natural state as acidic, like citrus fruits, tomatoes and pineapples they are alkaline after they mingle with digestive juices and pass through the intestines. On the other hand, animal products and many processed foods leave an acidic ash as they pass through the body.

The optimal pH of your blood is 7.4. This is when the body is able to perform at its peak, properly absorbing the essential minerals and nutrients from the food we eat. When your blood is too acidic it won't be able to process nutrients from food properly. Without adequate nutrients your body will not be able to fight cancerous and other degenerative cells in order to protect and heal itself of diseases.

Green leafy vegetables are rich in essential minerals and are the most alkalising foods. Eating more greens will alkalise your body fast. When the acid/alkaline levels of your digestive system is in balance your metabolism works efficiently to eliminate toxins and waste before it rots. Otherwise your body will get stressed trying to neutralise the acidic foods you eat and you get sick. When we have a virus it is the body's way of eliminating excess acid and mucus from our body. However, isn't it better that we don't consume foods that create the mucus in the first place?

Eat well & stay healthy!

The Healing Power Of Trees

Author: Yuri // Category:
Trees and plants have been a source of medicine for humans since the beginning of time. As large forests are being cut down, scientists worry about what this means in regards to the potential loss in trees that are ancient and of which science has been hidden.
An herbalist wrote in his dissertation, " Tree remedies tend to be stronger, more sustaining and with more powerful actions than their non-arboreal counterparts. They are often gentle and protective in their physical and emotional effects and, being slow moving, are particularly suitable for treating chronic illness. The circulation of the blood and the integrity of the musculoskeletal and integumentary [skin] systems are particular areas of application.” (Purves, D.A., 2003, p.50)."
When a plant’s physical characteristics indicate its medicinal properties, this theory is called the ‘doctrine of signatures’. For example, with trees, a Willow was traditionally used to treat rheumatism, arthritis and muscular aches. This is due to the fact the Willow is a flexible tree that moves with ease in the wind and it favors growing in damp places. The symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis are exacerbated by damp conditions. So the tree’s characteristics suggest that it will be beneficial for people who need flexibility and the ability to cope with dampness.
Today, scientists have discovered more than 300 plant-made pharmaceuticals (PMPs) under various stages of discovery. For centuries the Chinese have used the medicinal properties of trees to cure illnesses, as have the Native Americans. For instance, the Chinese make tea made from ginkgo seeds as a cure for respiratory illnesses, such as asthma.  Today it is known that ginkgo leaf extract is great for the treatment of a wide range of aliments such as Alzheimer's and depression.

The Chinese also use the bark of the Magnolia tree for healing. The bark is called Hou Pu.  Hou Pu is the part of the bark that is highly aromatic and stripped from the stems, branches and roots of the magnolia.  In historic documents, the first mention of magnolia bark as a Traditional Chinese medicinal substance was recorded around 100 C.E.  Acupuncturists and practitioners of Oriental medicine still continue to use Hou Pu. It is also used in Chinese herbal formulas to resolve complaints such as abdominal distension and pain, vomiting and diarrhea.  Magnolia bark‘s therapeutic actions include the promotion of qi in the gastrointestinal region.  For the acupuncture patient, this translates to relief of stomach fullness, bloating and discomfort.

As for the Native Americans, traditionally they have used Aspen bark for reducing fever and fighting influenza.
If it isn't the tree specifically that is used, it is often the nut of the tree. For instance the walnut is considered to be an herb in Chinese medicine. Walnuts are said to tone kidneys, strengthen the back and knees, warm and hold qi in lungs and help kidneys to grasp the qi, moisten the intestines and move stool. It is believed to stop asthma. It is also used to help the elderly relieve constipation.

Other tree species notorious throughout time for their healing prosperities include: hawthorn, white willow, lime, elder and oak. Other well known trees used include horse chestnut, eucalyptus, walnut, gingko, cedar, witch hazel, olive, juniper, buckthorn, ash, holly, pine, beech, larch, elm, sweet chestnut, hornbeam, crab apple, aspen, birch and more!
Will humans go back to examining the benefits of trees more closely for medicinal properties or will they discount them as just beautiful additions to the planet?

Pineapples: The Healing Fruit Of The Tropics (Includes A Recipe For Pina-Banana Orange Smoothie)

Author: Yuri // Category: , , , , , , ,

For a natural and tasty way to improve your health and boost your healing capacity, add fresh pineapple and pineapple juice to your diet. Pineapples are nutritionally packed members of the bromeliad family. This delightful tropical fruit is high in the enzyme bromelain and the antioxidant vitamin C, both of which plays a major role in the body's healing process.

Bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory with analgesic properties, encourages healing, promotes well-being and has many other health benefits. Bromelain is very effective in treating bruises, sprains and strains by reducing swelling, tenderness and pain. This powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect can also help relieve osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and reduce postoperative swelling. Additionally, bromelain can relieve indigestion. The enzyme contained in fresh pineapple helps break down the amino acid bonds in proteins, which promotes good digestion.

Pineapples also provide an ample supply of vitamin C, a commonly known antioxidant that protects the body from free radical damage and boosts the immune system. Vitamin C helps build and repair bodily tissue and promotes wound healing. The body uses vitamin C to help metabolize fats and cholesterol, absorb iron, and synthesize amino acids and collagen. Collagen is one of the primary building blocks of skin, cartilage and bones. Vitamin C also decreases the severity of colds and infections.

Furthermore, due to its high vitamin C content, pineapples are good for your oral health as well. Recent studies have found that vitamin C can reduce your risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Besides increasing the ability of connective tissue to repair itself, vitamin C also increases the body's ability to fight invading bacteria and other toxins that contribute to gum disease. Periodontal disease, which destroys gum tissue and underlying jaw bones, has been linked to heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

So if you are searching for a natural way to enhance your body's healing mechanisms, promote overall good health and tantalize your taste buds, pineapples are the way to go. Choose the fresh fruit because it has the most healing properties. Unfortunately, most of the bromelain in canned pineapple is destroyed due to the heat used in the canning process.

When choosing a fresh pineapple, do not judge ripeness solely based upon color. There are several varieties on the market that range from green to golden yellow. The most important factor in determining ripeness is smell, let your nose help you decide. Ripe pineapples give off a sweet, fresh tropical smell. Avoid pineapples that give off an unpleasant odor or have any soft spots or areas of dark discoloration. Once home, let the pineapple sit on your counter at room temperature until ready to use. This will preserve its sweet and tangy flavor.

To prepare pineapple, you need to peel it, remove the eyes (the thorny protrusions within the puffy squares of the skin) and the fibrous center. One way to do this is to remove the top of the pineapple with a sharp knife. Then cut the pineapple lengthwise into 4 wedges (quarter it) and place each pineapple wedge horizontally on a cutting board. Carefully cut the fruit from the outer skin, and cut out the eyes and fibrous center core.

Another way is to cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple, place the pineapple vertically (upright) on a cutting board and carefully slice off the outer skin. With a sharp paring knife or the end if a vegetable peeler, remove the eyes. Don't cut too deep, just enough to lift out the section that contains the eye. Then, slice the pineapple crosswise and remove the fibrous core individually with a cookie cutter.

Once the fruit is prepared, it can be diced and eaten fresh, added to salads and entrees for an exotic flavor, or made into tasty tropical drinks and smoothies.

To get you started, try Monique N. Gilbert's delicious, nutritious, cholesterol-free smoothie recipe. It's high in bromelain, vitamin C, beta carotene, potassium, thiamin (vitamin B-1), riboflavin (vitamin B-2), iron, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and soy isoflavones.
