Tooth Friendly Diets While Wearing Your Braces

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

People using orthodontic treatments like wearing of braces need to be extra careful while under this treatment. The wires and brackets of the braces contain several nooks and crannies which can tangle and trap dozens of food particles which may lead to plaque and tartar. To avoid getting a higher risk of gum diseases and tooth problems in the future here is a few tips that you may follow:

Choose your food wisely

Pine Apples

The more acidic the food you eat the higher the risk for your tooth enamel to get damaged. So choose low acid foods like bananas, melons and mangoes rather than apples, peaches, plums, raspberries and pineapples while wearing your braces. Eliminate soft drinks, fruit drinks and even sports drinks in your diet and be satisfied with milk or water. Stick to less starchy food like potato chips and sugary food because it may has a tendency to stick to the teeth for a longer period of time.

Proper eating habit

Chew your food slowly and take in little bites. Saliva helps wash away the acids contained in the food that you eat so it is best to allow these to slowly mix with your saliva for a healthier digestion. Limit your intake of nuts, cookies and other hard foods and throw away all the toffees, chocolates, fruit bars, caramels, and sticky food especially chewing gum from your cabinet so as not to damage your braces.

Proper brushing

Use fluoride toothpaste when brushing your teeth. Provide approximately ten seconds of brushing time per tooth to include the intricate wires and brackets of your braces. Make sure you brush all the gaps between the wires and the brackets by firmly pressing your toothbrush between the wire and the tooth. Continue the process in a gentle yet circular motion to cover both the outside and inside surface of the teeth. Spit out any excess paste after brushing then carefully observe the condition of your teeth in front of the mirror.

Dental Visit

Maintain a regular visit to your dentist for further advice on proper tooth care procedures.

More Fruit Baskets Made Special

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Fruit baskets are labeled as traditional gifts bordering on the generic. Wondering what to give for a baby shower? Why not a fruit basket? How about for a graduation? A fruit basket! For a granted divorce party? A fruit basket! Although the fruit baskets look and taste good, the generic tag diminishes their value. This is one of the downfalls of being an easy gift to give. Fortunately, makers of more fruit baskets recognize these problems and have taken some tasty actions. More fruit baskets are being sold in more varieties and with tastier components.

These days, more fruit baskets are designed with focus on the variety of the fruits. Tropical fruits like mangoes and pineapples find themselves mixed in with cold weather fruits like apples. This mixing provides contrast, which makes the fruit baskets more interesting. Some fruit basket designers go the other way by using a single fruit for their baskets. For example, berry basket uses different types of berries, ranging from the popular strawberries to the exotic gooseberries.

Pine Apples

Adding blooms and cut flowers to fruit basket arrangements boost the look and value of the gift. Fruit baskets have used this trick in the past but only as accents. This trick evolved to another popular trend, which mixes floral arrangements with fruit baskets. No longer an accent, more fruit baskets sport amazing floral arrangements. A berry basket filled with blueberries looks beautiful with a bouquet of blue hydrangeas. Likewise, pale pink roses provide great contrast to a basket of Granny Smiths.

Fruits are great taken with a variety of other good eats. Nuts are good examples of these good eats. Remember trail mixes, those little packets with nuts, dried fruits, and raisins? Think of nuts and fruits baskets as fresh trail mixes. In addition to being crunchy and crisp, these trail mixes in a basket are a lot juicier, too. More fruit baskets are also fond of displaying fruit in a variety of ways: fresh, dried, cooked, or preserved. Current fruit baskets include boxes of crystallized pineapples and dried apricots in their baskets. Others content themselves with jars of preserves, marmalades, jellies, and jams.

More fruit baskets are also going gourmet. It is not uncommon to see fruit baskets packaged with bottles of wine, champagne, and designer chocolates. Cheeses are also great accompaniments to fruits. Good Italian cheeses like smoked and fresh mozzarella, gorgonzola, ricotta, mascarpone, or parmesan find their way inside fruit baskets. Other baskets sport authentic gourmet meats and sauces. Salami, pancetta, and prosciutto are usually accompanied by Italian sauces in gourmet fruit baskets. With the different varieties of fruit baskets sold today, it is a tough decision to just choose one. Fortunately, manufacturers decided to come up with more fruit baskets containing a bit of each mix-in. The result? Highly specialized and very delicious fruit baskets anybody would be glad to receive.

How to Grow Pineapple Successfully by Learning How to Plant a Pineapple Stem

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

Pineapples are very delicious and nutritious. They're rich in Vitamin C and phytochemicals which are good for the immune system. Many people want to know how to grow pineapple fruits because of the many uses it can offer. Aside from its nutritional value, its juice can also be applied in cooking processes such as for marinades. For those who want to plant a pineapple stem, you'll need a sharp knife, 12-inch pot, dry room, organic compost, potting soil, water and, of course, a pineapple.

It's very easy to grow a pineapple at home. All you need is a pineapple. Make sure it's ripe enough (but not too ripe); it has green, healthy leaves by the stem and it doesn't have molds. Once you've consumed the fruit, you only need to rip off the stem and plant it. The tricky part is on the growing process. You need to care for it so that it can successfully grow.

Pine Apples

Step 1 - Cut the pineapple stem. Trim its bottom with small, horizontal cuts. Trim on it until you see the root buds (these are the small dots along the bottom of the stem's perimeter). Then, strip off the leaves to about ¾ inch from the stem's base. This can increase rooting chances.

Step 2 - Put the stem facing down in a dry yet cool area for a week. This helps the cut end heal prior to planting. Skipping this step would result to plant rotting before it can even root.

Step 3 - Put a layer of coarse gravel along the bottom of your 12-inch pot (it should have drainage holes). Put some potting soil on top and mix in some organic compost.

Step 4 - Plant your pineapple stem's striped section into the soil. Then, firmly pat down the soil along the plant. This can establish support for the stem.

Step 5 - Water your plant once a week. Just make sure the soil is moist. Pineapple doesn't need much water in order to grow. In fact, too much water can weaken it.

Step 6 - Place the plant by a window. It needs maximum sun exposure.

The origin of pineapples is native to Paraguay and Southern Brazil. Before the arrival of Columbus, the Indians spread it across Central and South America towards the West Indies. It was when Columbus found it in the year 1493 in Guadaloupe when he was able to carry it to Spain. Pineapples then spread through the entire globe via sailing ships that consumed it as a means of protection against the scurvy disease.

Since then, people around the world have learned how to grow a pineapple. They easily spread because they're not that hard to grow. As a near-tropical plant, they can tolerate high temperatures and they're drought tolerant. However, they can only withstand up to 28 degrees F. Anything colder than that can retard its growth and make its fruit more acidic.

Does Pineapple Induce Labor?

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

If you are past your due date you may be looking for some ideas to get labor going. There are some foods that have properties in them that are known for helping prepare your body for labor and even sometimes inducing labor. Pineapples are one type of food that may help your body ready for labor. Tropical fruits like pineapples, mangoes, and papaya contain enzymes known as proteolytic enzymes. What these enzymes do for your body is they help break down protein.

While they function to break down proteins, they have also been used for all kinds of natural remedies such as anti-inflammatories and aiding digestion. Their digestive properties may help explain how they can induce labor. Sometimes foods that cause the bowels to move can stimulate contractions. This is because your intestines and uterus are both made up of smooth muscles. If the smooth muscles of your intestines start to move or contract, this can carry over to your uterus and stimulate contractions.

Pine Apples

Bromelain, a specific type of proteolytic enzyme found in pineapple, may also help with softening the cervix. In order for a woman to go into labor, her cervix needs to efface and dilate (or thin out and open up). The softening of her cervix helps to prepare the body for labor and in this way pineapples may help to induce labor. Eating pineapples, however, may not have immediate results but it is a natural way to prepare the body for labor though.

If you want to try to induce labor naturally or just help get your body ready for labor by eating pineapples, make sure that you are eating fresh pineapples. The canning process destroys most of the enzymes and won't have the same affect. Also know that the core is the richest in bromelain.

For Good Nutrition, Pineapple Helps

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

For good nutrition pineapple is a good choice. This article looks at the nutritional value, as well as the medicinal benefits. Pineapples are low in calories and high in nutritional value. A one cup serving contains only about 80 calories, but provides all of the vitamin C that a person needs every day, plus some. It is also a significant source of potassium, folate, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, niacin and zinc. Last but not least, it contains a unique dietary enzyme called bromelain.

The medicinal uses of bromelain have been known in the US since at least 1957. In other parts of the world, people have used pineapple for centuries as a natural remedy for a variety of different health problems.

Pine Apples

It was used historically as a treatment for burns. Proprietary mixtures containing it are used today as third degree burn treatments.

The most common use of bromelain is for digestive ailments. It provides relief from constipation, without having a laxative effect. Research has shown that bromelain has anti-inflammatory activity. A 200mg dose is a safe alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs for most people.

For improving any dish's nutrition, pineapple can be added. It works well with meats. The bromelain found in fresh pineapples acts as a natural meat tenderizer.

When paired with peppers and onions, it provides a cooling counterpoint to the heat of those vegetables. Diced pineapples can be added to cold rice, yogurt or ice cream for a nutritious dessert. Cubed pineapples can be dipped in chocolate for a luscious diversion.

Anything that you can do to increase your daily intake of fruits and vegetables is a good idea. So, for the best nutrition pineapple is just one choice. Berries, kiwi, apples and grapes are excellent choices, too.

Each of those fruits contains some unique nutrients. Blackberries and kiwi for example contain omega-3 fatty acids in their seeds. Red grape skins contain an antioxidant called resveratrol. Blueberries, some types of apples and a few other fruits contain anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins.

Scientists believe that these micronutrients play important roles in human health, which may have been overlooked until recently. In addition to all of the health benefits of fruits, they are beneficial for weight loss.

Even though they are low in calories, they are filling. It would be hard to overeat on just fruits and berries.

So, when it comes to losing weight, being healthy and getting excellent nutrition, pineapple, fruits and berries should be classified as super foods!

Pineapple - A Great Negative Calorie Food

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

One of the most interesting foods that often appears on the negative calorie food list is pineapple. Among negative calorie foods, pineapple is probably the highest in calories, so how can a fruit with a solid amount of calories be a negative calorie food?

Well in the negative calorie foods diet, there are many different factors in determining the amount of energy it takes to burn various types of negative calorie fruits and vegetables, and total calories is only part of that equation. While pineapple has a lot of calories for a negative calorie food, pineapple is still a fruit, meaning it has far fewer calories than grain, meat, or most other foods of the same size.

Pine Apples

Another huge benefit to pineapple, and part of the reason that pineapple remains a negative calorie food, is that it contains an enormous amount of vitamins and dietary fiber (think cleanse the system good). Add low calories with heavy vitamins and high fiber, and the digestive enzymes go wild over this fruit, causing some who believe in the negative foods diet to strongly approve of pineapple as a great negative calorie food.

I'm personally a huge fan of pineapple, since it is one of the more filling of the negative calorie foods, and gives a lot of energy, vitamins, and fiber that you need to get through a day. Whether or not pineapple actually has a true negative calorie effect is hard to say, and pineapple seems one of the least likely fruits or veggies on the negative calorie foods list to actually have a negative calorie effect, but even if it doesn't, pineapple is an extremely healthy fruit that has everything you need to get your digestive and metabolic systems working at full throttle.

Pineapple has the expected large amount of vitamin C, and nominal amounts of Vitamin A, calcium, and even some iron. The biggest positive of pineapple is the huge amount of dietary fiber, as well as the good types of carbs that give you energy and keep your system balanced. If you love the flavor of pineapple and are like me, you can woof down this negative calorie treat by the can.

A very important point when looking for negative calorie fruits such as pineapple: pay attention to the ingredients. Many companies that produce pineapple add extras like sugar or high fructose corn syrup - avoid these cans of pineapple at all cost. Look for the pineapple whose ingredients read simply: "Pineapple, Pineapple Juice." That should be all you see in there. If not, look for another can of rings or slices...or even better, buy it fresh if your local supermarket has it available.

Mangos: Treat Your Skin and Your Taste Buds

Author: Yuri // Category:

Mango is my favorite fruit next to pineapples. They're sweet, juicy and delicious. This extraordinary fruit contains high amounts of vitamin A (contributing to it's meaty bright orange color). It also contains Vitamins B, C , calcium, potassium and cartonoids (helps protect against cancer, common cold, and heart disease). They are also high in fiber and low in carbohydrates, making it an excellent addition to everyone's diet.

A great way to include mangos in your diet is to make deliciously simple smoothie.

Pine Apples

1 mango

½ cup plain yogurt

1 cup milk or soy milk

1 TBS Raw Honey

6-8 ice cubes

Combine the meat of the mango and all other ingredients in a blender. Blend until creamy. Enjoy.

Skin Treatment

If you can resist eating this delicious fruit, you can treat your skin to a wonderful mango scrub. This scrub will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

1 mango

½ cup sugar

1TBS honey

2 TBS whole milk

Blend mango meat, sugar, honey, and milk in a blender until it is smooth. Stand in the tub while rubbing this treatment all over vigorously. Rinse with warm water and finish with cool water.

Body Butter

After your mango scrub, your treatment is complete by adding a non-greasy body butter. Using both the scrub and body butter can leave your skin feeling soft for days.

This body butter recipe contains mango butter (you guessed it!). Mango butter is surprisingly inexpensive. Especially since cosmetic companies are using it for skin care treatments and charging prices as high as for the increasingly popular body butters. You can find it for about .75 per pound online.

2 oz mango butter

1 oz olive oil, almond oil, kukui nut oil, macadamia nut oil, etc...

1 TBS(or more) cornstarch (to make it less greasy)

6-8 drops of Fragrance of your choice (try vanilla, lavender, or mix your own)

Melt the mango butter in a double boiler or you may use the microwave. When using the microwave, set the temperature on medium and check every 45 seconds. When the mango butter is completely melted, add oil and cornstarch and stir until it is a nice creamy consistency. Add essential oil or fragrance last. Allow your butter to set in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

There is more than one way to enjoy mango. Eating mango of course is my favorite!

Burn Calories and Lose Weight with Negative Calorie Foods

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

Since nearly everything we eat helps contribute to our weight gain and calorie consumption it is nice to know that there are foods working on our behalf to slow that process down. Foods that will help your burn calories while consuming them. Sound too good to be true? Well it is not, we actually have at our disposal regular everyday fruits and vegetables to help do just that. Do you want to know what they are? Read on and take a look at the list that will help you enjoy eating while burning calories.

Most people don't know about negative calorie foods because we have been inundated with books, articles and programs that tell us to simply eat less and cut out the carbohydrates. The foods you will see on my list are all fruits and vegetables, which are their own carbohydrates as they have some sugar content, but because of their fiber content, they help our body feel full and burn calories. What does negative calorie mean? Well, simply put it is when the calories burned exceed the calories taken in. While we eat a handful of celery sticks our body is busy working away with both enzymes as well as the physical breakdown of the food. These processes require energy which come from the food you are eating. However, because the food requires more calories for energy to process the actual breakdown than what you have just eaten, it can start to work on stored calories (energy) that you have, helping you burn more calories and lose weight.

Pine Apples

Continue to enjoy the foods you love, not worrying about the sugar but rather marveling in the fact that you are losing weight and feeling great!

Pineapples Facts and Fun

Author: Yuri // Category:

What a sweet treat is ripe pineapple! Juicy fun with a tropical twist, it's no wonder it's such a popular fruit for snacking, desserts and refreshing drink recipes.

Where did Pineapple come from?

Pine Apples

The origin of pineapple can be traced to Paraguay and southern Brazil then through South America, finally landing in the Caribbean. Good ole Columbus discovered it on his travels and brought it back to Europe. After that, the Spanish introduced it to Zimbabwe, Guam and the Philippines. In 1813 it was introduced to Hawaii and by 1892, the exportation of canned pineapple had begun.

What are the different types of Pineapple?

There are hundreds of pineapple varieties, the most popular one being Smooth Cayenne. Behind that, we have Red Spanish pineapples whose harder, more durable skin make it great for shipping, Sugar Loaf pineapples which are heavy and larger than other types and Golden Supreme, which are sweeter due to a lower acidic content.

Nutrition and Serving Suggestions:

Pineapple contains some healthy, nutritional goodies for your body. While rich in Vitamin C, it boasts being the fruit highest in the essential nutrient, manganese as well as having lovely digestive enzymes.

As far as storage and serving, you'll want to keep your pineapple out of the refrigerator and on the counter instead. Left to its own devices, it'll ripen further just from sitting around, though it can take a while and if you're not vigilant, pineapple can easily become over-ripe. One trick to help it ripen quicker is to sit it upside-down on the leafy end.

Interesting Pineapple Facts:

You can actually grow your very own! Just take a pineapple, twist the crown off, let it dry for 2-3 days and plant it. How fun is that? Also, the "trash" component of pineapple (the rind, core and ends) are used for making vinegar, animal feed and alcohol, so nothing goes to waste at the factory. As far as health interactions, pineapples should be avoided by hemophiliacs or those suffering from liver or kidney disease, as it can interfere with blood coagulation.

Types of Food You Need to Avoid After Lap Band Surgery

Author: Yuri // Category:

After undergoing the surgical procedures, the lap band patients are normally advised by the hospital dietitian to avoid some of the food for the purpose of avoiding complications during the recovery process. It is an important reminder for all the patients that not all types of food are well accepted by the "new stomach" after the operation. They have to adapt themselves to their new eating habits and it is a must for them to avoid certain types of food as well as drinks.

Let's see the types of food and drinks which are not well tolerated by the patients' stomach after the lap band surgery.

Pine Apples

o All types of meat especially those which are tough such as beef, lamb, pork and turkey. The patients are having difficulty in digesting them.
o All types of fruits and vegetables which contain high fiber. For instance, oranges, grapefruits, pineapples, sweet potatoes, celery, etc.
o Hot and spicy food, especially those which contain certain spices like cinnamon, onion, garlic, pepper, ginger, etc.
o All types of fried food as they are oily
o The seeds and skins of all fruits and vegetables
o All types of cold food and cold drinks, including ice-cream and carbonated beverages
o Coffee and tea which contain caffeine

All the food stated above must be avoided for the first three months after the operation for better weight loss results. The patients are advised to take in more liquid food, such as soup, porridge, protein shake, baby food, sugar free gelatin, etc. Many patients may not like liquid food but they definitely have to consume for better health condition. The patients will normally look healthier after their weight loss surgery if they follow the required diet proposed by the professional dietitians. They will definitely be able to achieve great success in their weight loss plan.

Chocolate Covered Fruit

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

I think all of us have eaten chocolate covered fruit. It is one of the most wonderful taste combinations, chocolate and strawberries, or chocolate and pineapple.

Making chocolate covered fruit is not only simple but also very elegant looking when preparing desserts for guests.

Pine Apples

The simplest way to make chocolate covered fruit is to buy chocolate chips and melt them down. I buy both brown chocolate and white chocolate. I'll buy either chips or bars and then melt them over a very low fire.

All fruit must be dry before dipping. If you wash the fruit, make sure to paper towel off the water, so that when you dip, the fruit is dry.

I line a cookie sheet with waxed paper and after dipping transfer the fruit to the waxed paper. I then chill in the refrigerator.

Mix and match strawberries, pineapple wedges, maraschino cherries, apples and pears. I've also dipped dried food to add to the platter I'm making. If you don't use white chocolate, try using marshmallows, and dipping half of the marshmallow in chocolate, so that you have a lot of white showing on your platter.

I've seen beautiful skewers with mandarin oranges used as spacers. Dip your fruit in chocolate and put the orange slices, un-dipped in the middle of your dipped fruit.

Try dipping strawberries or maraschino cherries and adding them to the top of pudding or ice cream for a very pretty visual look.

Make or buy a pound cake. Cut the pound cake into squares. Dip half of the square in chocolate and mix on the platter with your dipped fruit.

When you use fruits such as strawberries and pineapple you are able to have green on your dessert platter also.

Are you feeling brave? Once you dip the fruit, try sprinkling coconut or chopped nuts over the chocolate. If kids will be eating the fruit, try sprinkling M&M's or Reeses Pieces over the fruit.

It's fun to arrange dessert platters with assorted fruits, some in white chocolate, some in milk chocolate, some with nuts on them, and some with coconut on them. Experiment and enjoy a delicious yet very simple dessert.

Bon Appetite!!

How to Cure Gout in the Natural Way

Author: Yuri // Category:

Gout is a painful inflammatory condition of the joints, caused by crystallized uric acid collecting in and around the joints. It most commonly affects the big toe, but may also affect the ankle, heel, wrist, hand, or elbow. Besides pain, gout can result in swelling also. Once the affected sites begin to swell, the slightest touch can cause a terrible pain.

Although drug-based treatment for gout can be effective, more and more gout sufferers are seeking natural remedies to cure gout. These natural remedies don't have the nasty side effects of prescription treatment using drugs.

Pine Apples

Here are 5 natural remedies that will have you throwing away your prescriptions and curing your gout naturally.

1. Water
One of the best natural remedies on how to cure gout is water. Dehydration often triggers a gout attack. As the body loses water, the concentration of uric acid increases in the blood. When it reaches a critical level, uric acid crystals will form and eventually develop into gout.

Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water throughout the day, everyday. This will rapidly increase the healing process.

2. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an excellent remedy to cure gout. Not only does it help your body resist the infections that gout can cause, it also helps to reduce uric acid levels. This makes it best for use both during an attack as well as for maintenance.

Eat plenty of fruits such as oranges, mandarins and tangerines. But you can also take it in supplemental form. Supplements are possibly more effective than fresh fruits during an attack, but don't allow that put you off still eating fresh fruits during one.

3. Bromelain
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme found only in pineapple. It contains natural anti-inflammatory properties that are ideal to relieve the tissue and joint swelling and severe pain of gout. It has also been reported that, when taking on a daily basis, bromelain may also prevent recurring gout attacks.

You can consume fresh pineapples, but, bromelain supplement is probably best.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Apple cider vinegar alters the blood pH so that the crystals will go into solution and be excreted. It can help alleviate gout symptoms if ingested as well as if used topically.

To drink, just add two or three teaspoons in an 8 ounce glass of water, and drink twice a day. As a topical soak, add half cup to 3 cups of warm water. Soak the affected area for around thirty minutes.

5. Cherries
Cherries are very nutritious fruits. Cherries contain anthocyanins that are extremely effective in reducing inflammation and lowering uric acid levels in your blood. You can either eat cherries or drink the unsweetened cherry juice to cure gout. When you feel an attack coming on, eat 30-40 cherries immediately.

This is in brief how you can cure gout naturally but you also have to address other issues that affect your condition, e.g. your diet, lifestyle, weight, underlying medical conditions, medications, etc. This is essential because recurrent gout attacks can lead to severe arthritis, permanent joint damage, and even kidney problems.

During the warmer times of the year, barbecuing and outdoor grilling are popular cooking methods around the world. A number of people are aware of the disparity between barbecuing and grilling, while others have no idea at all.

Grilling is simply cooking at a rapid rate using high temperature and barbecuing is cooking at a slower rate using a lower temperature.

Pine Apples

Hot charcoal or fire from a gas burner is used in grilling. This cooking technique is ideal for cooking tender meat slices. Although the meat will be cooked fast with its juices sealed within making the meat juicy and savoury, if it is left on the heat for a longer period of time, the meat will become dry. Even as barbecue sauces can be utilized for this cooking method, they can only be put in after the cooking is done in order to prevent the sugar from being burnt, particularly when the barbecue sauce is sweet. Grilling can also be used for fruits and vegetables and they will be cooked at a much shorter time. The sugar found naturally in pineapples and peaches will caramelize due to the high heat making them perfect for grilling. It is important for you to monitor the food that you are grilling in order to prevent it from becoming overcooked. So it is essential for you not to leave the grill while cooking.

Wood or charcoal and sometimes gas can be used in barbecuing. I was able to observe a gas grill being used to cook a kalhua pig, however people would normally use wood or charcoal. Pork ribs or beef brisket and other tougher meat cuts are normally used in barbecuing. The deliberate cooking technique will make the meat become softer up to a point that they will easily slip off the bone. The heat used for barbecuing will be much lowered compared to grilling since the cooking time is longer allowing the barbecue sauce to be placed on the meat while it is still being barbecued allowing it to create a delectable glaze on the meat's surface. In order to maintain the moistness and taste of the meat, the meat may be sprayed with apple juice. The smoky flavor of the meat can be achieved if the fire is fuel with moist chips of wood.

These two cooking techniques can be used for meats such as chicken. Even as the chicken will be full of flavor if it is grilled and brushed with barbecue sauce or a sweet glaze, it will also be have a similar savoury taste if it is barbecued while taking in the smoky flavor courtesy of the damp wood chips.

Whichever cooking method you use, you have to avoid burning and charring of the grill to prevent safety and health problems. Enjoy a delicious meal with your friends and family with either grilling or barbecuing.

Detoxify Your Body to the Maximum

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Body detoxification comes in a variety of forms and techniques. Detoxification of the body refers to the cleansing of certain organs such as the bowels, lungs, kidneys and liver. These all absorb toxins from the food you eat, air that you breathe and water that you drink. People go through detoxification to maintain their health not just for the inside but for the outward appearance as well. Body detox does make your skin glow healthier.

Different approaches for detox are introduced to improve health and to remove toxins. The following are efficient ways to fully detoxify your body.

Pine Apples

1. Detoxification Diets

Diets are very important, whether it is herbal, cleansing, or other detox programs. Include foods that are helpful in eliminating toxins in your body. Vegetables are good sources of enzymes that help in proper digestion of food. Refined and processed food should be avoided as much as possible. They have many negative effects in the body's digestion and would hinder your detoxification. Natural foods are filled with the fiber needed to stimulate bowel elimination. Vegetarians benefit from this method. Now, do you wonder why most of them have good skin?

2. Herbal Cleansing

Adding herbal foods and drinks provide vitamins and minerals for excellent detoxification. They stimulate the liver, lungs and kidneys well. Dandelion, parsley, chamomile, berries and ginger are good sources of detox diet. Lemon juice, pineapple juice and avocado juice are the best drinks for detox. Herbs used in teas and extracts can also be an option. They are all good for cleansing the body.

3. Skin Care Detox

People who use commercialized skin care products tend to absorb more toxins to their body due to the different chemicals they give. They might enhance your skin in some ways but you have no idea how much toxins they give to your liver or kidney. Natural skin care products are the best choices. Have a regular bath through the use of natural soaps and other products made of natural ingredients. You can also soak your body to warm water with baking soda, Epsom salt and sea salt. Then, scrub your skin with natural fiber soap.

4. Antioxidants

The most commonly used substances today are those with antioxidants. Hence, glutathione, vitamins A, E and C are effective in detox too. Glutathione can be in two forms: medicine and skin care products. Meanwhile, vitamin C is used to process energy and to eliminate toxic wastes.

Detoxify your body in simpler ways like the ones mentioned and feel renewed and refreshed every day. As you see, there are some factors you may consider in detoxification, like proper nutrition, excessive water, and regular exercise, and most importantly fresh air. Always feel free to detox without spending too much time and money by using the methods provided.

5 Natural Gout Treatments You Can Use to Get Rid of Your Pain

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Do you wish you could find a way to get rid of your gout pain? Here are 5 natural gout treatments you can use to overcome painful attacks while they are occurring and also lessen the likelihood of repeat incidents.

1. Blueberries. Blueberries are a great way to help you alleviate pain. Blueberries contain powerful anti-swelling properties known as anthocyanins. This powerful flavonol is not only good for this disease but also other diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Blueberries also contain vitamin C which has been shown to reduce uric acid content, one of the main contributors for causing gout.

Pine Apples

2. Pineapples. Pineapples are an effective way to help reduce pain and prevent further gouty incidences. They produce an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme also helps reduce swelling. It can be taken as a supplement, but you should consult your doctor, especially if you are taking such medicines as aspirin and coumadin (Warfarin). If you are not on these medicines and your doctor allows, bromelain can be a very effective remedy.

Another benefit to eating pineapples for gout is they add potassium to your diet. Potassium aids the body in eliminating uric acid. This delicious fruit also contains folic acid. This acid is a B-complex vitamin and helps repair damaged tissue from scarring caused during an attack.

3. Strawberries. Strawberries main claim to helping with this arthritic disease are possessing a large percentage of vitamin C compared to many other fruits. Strawberries, along with pineapples also consists of quercitin. Quercitin can be bought as a supplement and reduces swelling.

4. Bananas. Bananas main ingredient for treating gout is potassium. Again, potassium is known to help turn uric acid crystals into liquid so the kidneys can eliminate them from the body. These crystals are what cause the pain and damage to joints during an attack.

5. Grapes. Grapes also contain anthocyanins. The darker the variety of grapes, the greater the quantity of these flavonols. So choose a darker grape if you are trying to overcome an attack or prevent a future one.

Is Your Body Chemistry Alkaline Or Acidic?

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

A balance or imbalanced body chemistry can mean the difference between having a healthy or diseased body. Our body must maintain a certain pH level in order to function properly. A healthy pH is approximately 7.0 to 7.4 and anything below or above these levels can cause illness or disease. Microorganisms thrive in the blood when the pH levels are not at its optimal level.

The pH level determines whether your body is predominately alkaline or acidic. Cancer and other degenerative diseases have been linked with diets high in acidic foods which toxic to the body.

Pine Apples

To insure a more alkaline diet, it is recommended that one's daily diet consist of about 75% alkaline foods and 25% acidic foods. The benefit of having alkaline-rich foods is that they supply nourishment, replace our cells, and build flesh, bone, tissue, skin and hair.

Here is a board list of alkaline and acidic foods that will benefit most people (this is not a comprehensive listing).

Alkaline Foods Sources:

Vegetables: squash, celery, broccoli, cabbage, collard green, beets, cauliflower, carrot, cucumber, brussel sprouts, all sprouts, garlic, mushrooms, spinach

Fruits: bananas, grapefruit, lemon and limes, tomatoes, raspberries, pineapples, apples, apricots, avocados, blueberries, honeydew melon, strawberries, watermelon

Acidifying Foods

Oysters, chicken, fowl, eggs, lentils, liver, most grains (except millet and buckwheat), peanuts, most nuts (except almonds and brazil nuts), rice (all), beef, bacon, tuna, shrimp, turkey, clams.

Avocado oil, butter, canola oil, flax oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, corn oil, lard.

For a more comprehensive listing of alkaline and acidic foods, you can conduct your own Internet research. Based on the above listing and your own research, you will be better able to determine whether your daily diet intake consists of more alkaline or acidifying foods.

If the results show that your diet is more acidifying foods, your goals should be to gradually shift your pH toward a more alkaline daily diet to avoid illness and degenerative diseases.

How to Grow Pineapple

Author: Yuri // Category:

It contains several minerals and vitamins and also tastes great. No wonder Pineapple is considered to be a wonder fruit. Pineapple is generally grown in a tropical type of climate as it flourishes mostly then. However if you can keep in check, the amount of chilly winds and frost it is being exposed to, you can grow pineapple in any type of climate. You can start learning how to grow pineapple inside your house if you live in a region having cold climatic conditions. Yes it is possible to do so, but don't expect to get the same type of fruit you would from tropical regions like Hawaii.

You can follow the steps given below to grow pineapples:

Pine Apples

Step 1: The first step is to buy a pineapple, from a fruit stand, a supermarket or from anywhere really. You can peel off the strip and enjoy the fruit. All you need to keep is the crown. The crown will help you grow your plant.

Step 2: Prepare your soil. You should ensure that while keeping it moist, you should not allow the soil to retain water for long periods of time. You can put any amount of fertilizer to keep the soil healthy and apt to grow the fruit into.

Step 3: Now, you need to dig up a hole in the soil and plant the pineapple on top, keeping the crown of the fruit exposed. Once the pineapple has been planted in place, you need to water it regularly and fertilize it. Watering the pineapple needs to be done once in a week and feeding it with a fertilizer is required once in every two months.

Step 4: 20 Months are required for a pineapple plant to produce a delicious fruit under tropical conditions. However your plant can take longer periods of time to bear fruit.

Step 5: If you see a flower sprouting after waiting for a minimum of at least four months, that's your indication that the pineapple fruit is almost ready. By seeing a rich golden color of the shell, you can tell that the fruit is ripe. The ripening of a fruit can be seen by the change in color of the pineapple. The change in color begins at the bottom and gradually moves upwards as the fruit ripens.

You can also keep some of the following points in mind while planting pineapples:

A pineapple will always taste better when it has been ripened on a plant instead of on shelves. Talking on a more commercial level, the pineapple is taken out of the plant well before it has reached its full potential.

To protect the pineapple fruit from chilly harsh weathers, you can grow it indoors. However you must ensure that the plant still receives adequate sunlight. Excessive watering can kill a plant. So avoid it.

Pineapple Wine in Maui Hawaii

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

When I found out I was going to Maui, Hawaii last Christmas and New Year's vacation, I didn't really start looking into what Maui had to offer until just before the trip. I had been to Kona once before, and the big item there is the Kona coffee. Scanning through the information about Maui, some of the highlights were the drive to Hana, the big white sand beaches, Maui coffee, and ofcourse the pineapple wine.

One of the things I wondered about the pineapple wine was how it would taste. Pineapple fruit is very sweet, so I thought the wine might taste sort of like a dessert wine. I've tasted fruit wines before, ones that were made in the Okanagan valley of BC. Those wines were derived from apricots, apples, peaches and other fruits grown locally.

Pine Apples

The other thing I wondered was how hard would it be to get? It didn't seem like there were many places that made pineapple wine, so does most of it get exported? Can you only buy it in a select few stores? Would it be expensive?

To answer the taste question, it turns out that pineapple wine tastes very similar to a good white wine. There is a hint of pineapple flavor, but you might not know if someone just handed you a glass of it to taste. It is not sweet like a dessert wine, it's more like a semi-dry white wine that goes great with a Hawaiin dinner. There was another wine available in Maui, a combination of pineapple and passion fruit wine. I didn't try it but it's supposed to be sweeter like a dessert wine. Both are made at Maui's Winery at Ulupalakua Ranch. You can visit http://www.PineappleWine.net

In answer to my second question, how hard is it to find, well the answer is that you can find it in all the supermarkets, ABC stores, and just about everywhere! And it's very affordable, for as low as 10$ per bottle in some locations.

After returning from my trip and looking further into pineapple wine, I've found that it's also made in Florida, a brand called Florida Sunset Pineapple Wine. It's an award winning wine and goes for close to per bottle, but shipping charges might be lower than from Hawaii.

If you're the adventurous wine making type, you can search online for pineapple wine recipes and make some yourself at home. If you prefer just opening the bottle, Maui's Winery wines and Florida Sunset can all be bought online at various stores, including the wineries themselves.

As a final note of interest, I also discovered there is a dance band called Pineapple Wine in Cleveland Ohio that will perform at all sorts of events. Who would have thought?

Watermelon Diet For Weight Loss

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

Watermelon is firstly known to have been grown by the early Egyptians in approximately 4000 BC. It reached Europe only thousands of years later, in around 1300, and it has been very popular ever since.

We don't know if our ancestors knew about its useful properties, but we do know now that with its help we can lose weight.

Pine Apples

The real challenge when trying to lose weight is staying focused and not neglecting your routine for a single day - that's why people want to choose programs that fit themselves most. Watermelon is a very tasty fruit so anyone can easily create a habit of eating it everyday - that's why it's so useful. But you should be careful - if you eat too much you might get sick of it and not be able to continue with your habit.

The fact that it's rich in antioxidants from the lycopene contained (a natural red colored pigment) and that it contains very few calories makes the watermelon perfect for a diet. Also, vitamins contained include C, A,B6 and B1.

When conceiving a watermelon diet for weight loss that fits you I suggest you try to replace supper with one cup of watermelon (which contains about 46 calories).

About the storage, researches showed that it is best preserved outside the refrigerator (although its taste is better if cooled) - cooling it makes it lose some of its properties, so it's not recommended. That's one reason to buy only small watermelons.

As another interesting fact, some people claim that this is one of the "negative calories" aliments (together with asparagus, pineapple, grape fruit, papaya and others). It is being said that negative calories foods make the body use more calories when digesting them than they actually contain themselves. However, this has not yet been proven scientifically.

When Pineapple is Not a Fruit - Pineapple Sage

Author: Yuri // Category:

Pineapple Sage

This is a very interesting herb to have in your garden, not only for the culinary reasons, but also as a showpiece flowering plant for the fall. Pineapple sage leaves can be used to add to salads, or as an add in to tea for the hint of pineapple flavor and the very noticeable fragrance of fresh pineapples but that is not its strength for the Herbanite.

Pine Apples

In zone 7 it is known for the absolute brilliant red flowers it produces in the fall for sure, and also during the summer season sporadically. Once it starts flowering there is no doubt what is and where is Pineapple sage. The plant stands out due to the flowers and can become a centerpiece for your visual delight. The flowers are also more noticeable than the other surrounding plants simply because the height of its flowering season is when other plants, especially most known solely for the beauty of the flowers, is preparing to go dormant for the winter. That is the time Pineapple sage is reaching its glory days.

Many people are not aware that the flower is actually an edible, or shall we say, a digestible!! Chefs and other at home innovative cooks like to top a white icing cake with the brilliant red flowers of pineapple sage bringing the flowers into the edible flower menu. Another innovative approach is to prepare a fruit type punch, or even a mojito, and sprinkle a few sage flowers into the glass or punch bowl to create a visually appealing drink. Some even place a few slightly crushed leaves into or around the serving piece for the fragrance of pineapple to enhance the aromatic properties of a "born at home herbal delight" drink freshly prepared and visually appealing.

In zone 7 pineapple sage is a "tender perennial" which means best to do prior to hard winter is cut back to about 1-2"s from ground, mulch over with good top set of old leaves and insure a 60-70% chance of new growth the following spring. Pineapple sage loves a direct hot sun for the best growing environment.

Learn Some Philippine Riddles

Author: Yuri // Category: ,

You can have a peek at the richness of Philippine culture by studying Philippine riddles. They are witty and puzzling questions in which the answers are mostly traditional Philippine fruits or things. They are a form of poetry because they come in rhyme. They are mirror to the daily life of the Philippines before the Spanish came to colonize the country.

Take a look at this very popular Philippine riddle:

Pine Apples

Heto na si Kaka

Bubuka-bukaka

In English, it means:

Here comes Kaka,

With his legs opening and closing

The answer to the riddle is: a pair of scissors. This example shows us how inventive and imaginative native Filipinos are in crafting their riddles. This is a Philippine riddle that most Filipinos know.

Another example of a Philippine riddle is this riddle about a fruit that can be found in the Philippines:

Isang reynang maraming mata

Nasa gitna ang espada

The translation in English is this:

A queen that has many eyes

with the swords that are in the middle of the eyes

The answer to the riddle is pineapple. This riddle illustrates well how Philippine riddles are considered as a form of poetry. Aside from the rhyme in the original Tagalog riddle (both lines end in /a/), another thing that makes it poem is the use of imagery. In the riddle about pineapple, it uses the imagery of a queen that has many eyes. It also uses figurative speech. The queen that has many eyes is compared to a pineapple fruit.

Let us see that Philippine riddle for man's best friend: dog.

Mataas kung nakaupo

Mababa kung nakatayo.

In English, it means:

Tall when sitting down

Short when standing up.

This riddle is also very popular with most Filipinos. Almost all of them know the answer to the riddle. This riddle shows the wit of the Filipinos. There are many other Philippine riddles and all of them are not only mind games but also mirror of the richness of Philippine literature and Philippine culture.

Make Your Own Natural Christmas Decorations

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

Go Green this Christmas Season. Reduce the impact of your own "carbon footprint."

If you had visited Williamsburg Colonial Village this season or past Christmas seasons, you will marvel at what people can do with natural plant materials, without artificial plastic imported objects.

Pine Apples

You can put history at your front door by duplicating a traditional colonial wreath. There are lots of ways to do it. It is all up to your imagination and artistry.

You can easily construct your own with a grape vine wreath cage filled with floral foam and attach sprigs of greenery collected from your own backyard.

During colonial times, life was difficult. People then did not have a lot of material things. But they were ingenious. Using preserved plant material and any kind of fruit they had on hand, they fashioned beautiful, eye-catching Christmas decorations for their homes.

Wreaths and swags were made with what was growing in their back yard.

They used dried pods of okra, cotton pods, oyster shells, dried flowers from their own garden, sprigs of magnolia, boxwood, holly, pine, pine cones, and any other kind of greenery they had growing. They also embellished their wreaths with fresh pineapples, apples, oranges, and pomegranates; all made without artificial sprays, scent or color paint.

Fresh fruit was chosen for its color brilliance as well as its keeping quality when exposed to the harsh winter weather. All these are artistically wired onto a sturdy frame laden with greenery and dried native flowers. Why the pineapple, a tropical fruit, is used in their traditional wreath is a whole different story. You can find that in publications from Colonial Wiliamsburg.

How to Make Pineapple Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Author: Yuri // Category: , , ,

Several years ago, I was given this recipe for pineapple stuffed chicken breasts and I must say...it has become a family favorite. What I really like about this recipe is that its easy to prepare with readily available ingredients. It does take an hour to bake, but it will be well worth the wait. This recipe will make 4 hearty servings.

Tip: If you don't have a can of crushed pineapples, you can use tidbits or rings...just use a masher or food processor to crush them up.

Pine Apples

Pineapple Stuffed Chicken Breasts

2/3 cup hot water

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

2 cups boxed stuffing mix, chicken flavor

8 ounce can crushed pineapples with syrup

4 chicken breasts, boneless, skinless and halved

1/2 green pepper, chopped

1/2 red pepper, chopped

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons white vinegar

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the hot water and butter, until the butter has melted. Stir in 2 cups of the chicken flavored stuffing mix until it is coated and has started to soften. Stir in the chopped green and red peppers and half of the can of pineapples and syrup.

Spoon the stuffing mixture evenly on chicken and roll tightly. Secure with a toothpick. Place in a baking dish with the remaining stuffing in the center of the baking pan.

In a small bowl, mix together the remaining pineapples with syrup, brown sugar, vinegar and ground ginger. Spoon this sauce over the chicken. Place baking dish in a preheated oven set at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until done.

How to Make a Delicious Pineapple Dessert Pie

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

When it comes to making homemade dessert pies, you don't have to slave for hours making a recipe that is difficult and time consuming. This particular recipe was given to me 25 years ago by my grandmother and to this day, it is one of our favorites to make.

You can purchase two pre-made pie shells or make your own pie crust using your favorite recipe. Once the pie has completely cooled to room temperature, you will want to store it in the refrigerator.

Pine Apples

When it comes to serving it, I recommend vanilla ice cream, vanilla yogurt or some whipped topping. If desired, you can place a few fresh cherries on top of your chosen topping right before serving.

Pineapple Pie Recipe

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3 tablespoons quick cooking tapioca

1/4 teaspoon table salt

4 cups fresh pineapple, chopped into pieces

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 unbaked pastry shells

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a small mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, tapioca and table salt. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped pineapple pieces and lemon juice. Gently stir the sugar mixture into the pineapple mixture to combine all ingredients together. Let this mixture stand at room temperature for approximately 15 minutes.

Pour mixture into an unbaked pastry shell and dot the top with butter or margarine. Use the second pastry shell to make a top crust, seal the edges with a tad of water if necessary.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or until done. Cool pie to room temperature and then refrigerate.

Sore Throat - Soothe Your Sore Throat Naturally

Author: Yuri // Category: , ,

When flu season is upon us, other viruses circulating in our communities contribute to cold symptoms such as sore throats, which make us feel cranky and uncomfortable.

Since viruses are the major cause of sore throats, there are no medications to alleviate them, however, there are certain natural remedies that will make your sore throat feel better while your body fights off the infection.

Pine Apples

First of all, stay hydrated. If your sore throat is accompanied by other upper respiratory symptoms, such as runny nose, nasal congestion, or cough, drink chicken broth a couple times a day. Recent research confirmed what moms always told us about chicken soup: it definitely helps when we're sick! According to the scientific findings, chicken broth thins mucus in the respiratory system, stops excessive mucus production, and relieves nasal congestion. Therefore, chicken broth will lessen coughing and might decrease postnasal drip that often results in a sore throat.

Excessive coughing can also cause a sore throat. Since cough medications are ineffective in battling the cough, reach for honey. Any honey will do, however, researchers studied buckwheat honey and announced that it is more effective in cough control than dextromethorphan, the DM component of over-the-counter cough suppressants. I recommend that my patients take 1 teaspoon of honey 4 times a day. It can be eaten off the spoon, ingested with warm water or tea with lemon, or drizzled on toast with butter, pancakes, or graham crackers. (Note: honey should not be given to children younger than 1 year as it may cause botulism).

Consider these remedies to relive your sore throat:

Gargle with chamomile tea--it has anti-inflammatory properties.

Drink orange juice. It might sting, but the vitamin C will numb your throat instantaneously.

Munch on raw almonds. They contain an aspirin-like compound that works wonders, not only to relieve migraine headaches, but also sore throats.

Eat fresh or canned pineapple. Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme with anti-inflammatory properties.

Sip on a warm tea with honey and lemon. Honey will coat your throat and the lemon juice will quickly numb it.

If your sore throat persists beyond 3-4 days, or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or bad headache, you have a difficult time swallowing your saliva, or you choke on food, see your health care provider ASAP.
