A balance or imbalanced body chemistry can mean the difference between having a healthy or diseased body. Our body must maintain a certain pH level in order to function properly. A healthy pH is approximately 7.0 to 7.4 and anything below or above these levels can cause illness or disease. Microorganisms thrive in the blood when the pH levels are not at its optimal level.

The pH level determines whether your body is predominately alkaline or acidic. Cancer and other degenerative diseases have been linked with diets high in acidic foods which toxic to the body.

To insure a more alkaline diet, it is recommended that one's daily diet consist of about 75% alkaline foods and 25% acidic foods. The benefit of having alkaline-rich foods is that they supply nourishment, replace our cells, and build flesh, bone, tissue, skin and hair.

Here is a board list of alkaline and acidic foods that will benefit most people (this is not a comprehensive listing).

Alkaline Foods Sources:

Vegetables: squash, celery, broccoli, cabbage, collard green, beets, cauliflower, carrot, cucumber, brussel sprouts, all sprouts, garlic, mushrooms, spinach

Fruits: bananas, grapefruit, lemon and limes, tomatoes, raspberries, pineapples, apples, apricots, avocados, blueberries, honeydew melon, strawberries, watermelon

Acidifying Foods

Oysters, chicken, fowl, eggs, lentils, liver, most grains (except millet and buckwheat), peanuts, most nuts (except almonds and brazil nuts), rice (all), beef, bacon, tuna, shrimp, turkey, clams.

Avocado oil, butter, canola oil, flax oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, corn oil, lard.

For a more comprehensive listing of alkaline and acidic foods, you can conduct your own Internet research. Based on the above listing and your own research, you will be better able to determine whether your daily diet intake consists of more alkaline or acidifying foods.

If the results show that your diet is more acidifying foods, your goals should be to gradually shift your pH toward a more alkaline daily diet to avoid illness and degenerative diseases.
