Eating fruit as is makes for a very filling and nutritional snack but every now and again you crave for something a bit more fun than a plain apple. Fruit also makes great snacks and wonderful additions to a normal lunch box and if you are creative enough you can even pack these in your children's lunch boxes on those hot summer days when nobody feels like having a sandwich.
Here are some quick fresh fruit snacks you can prepare in a jiffy.
Pine Apples
Fruit Icicles
You Will Need:
* Ice trays or plastic ice cream molds
* Strawberries
* Pineapples
* Peaches
* Fruit juice of your choice
Cut the fruit into small pieces by hand or by quickly blending them. Mix the fruit with the fruit juice and pour into the ice trays or plastic molds. Put in the refrigerator for about 1 to 2 hours until frozen. These are delicious in juices or to eat as is next to the pool. Be sure to make enough of these as the kids will not stop eating these on a hot summer's day and keep on pestering you for more.
Fruity Yogurt Popsicle
You Will Need:
* Bananas
* Strawberries
* Crushed pineapple pieces
* Vanilla Extract
* Yogurt (flavored or unflavored)
* Plastic Popsicle molds or small paper cups
* Aluminum foil
* Popsicle sticks
1. Chop the fruit up into small pieces and mix well with the yogurt and vanilla extract. Tip: If you prefer a smooth yogurt popsicle, put the mixture in the blender and blend until completely smooth.
2. Pour the mixture into the paper cups or popsicle mounds and cover these with foil.
3. Using the tip of a knife make a small cut in the center of the foil and push the popsicle sticks through.
4. Put the popsicles in the freezer overnight.
5. To eat, simply remove the foil and run the plastic moulds under warm water for a second or five so that you can wiggle the popsicle out.
Fruit Kabobs
Skewers some diced fruit onto kabob skewers and roll them lightly in sugar to create a fun treat. Children will love to help with these!
Make a Fruit Juice
Some children (and grownups) detest having to eat fruit but love fruit juice. Run fresh fruit of your choice through a juicer or a blend it with ice to make slush. You can even slip a couple of vegetables into the juice too.
Fruit Salad
Fruit salad is always a winner. Dice some fruits of your choice into bite-sized chunks in a salad bowl and use honey, yogurt or even elderberry blossom syrup to flavor your fruit salad with.
Make a Smoothie
Puree fruit and milk or yogurt in a blender to create a smoothie and flavor it with granola or nuts.
Make Cinnamon Orange Slices
Peel and thinly slice about four oranges. Mix a little bit of honey with 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Pack the orange slices in a serving bowl or plate and drizzle the honey and cinnamon mixture on top. Stir, and refrigerate for 60 minutes before serving.
