Spain has made great effort to preserve and develop the existing parks. It has also built new parks which have attracted large number of tourists. Some of the renowned parks are briefly discussed here:
The national park of Sierra:
Sierra, a town of the province of Murica has some forest reserves. The Government has developed it into a National Park. In developing this park, the 1600 meters Espuna peak has come in handy. Varieties of trees are planted around this peak and now the peak has become a centre of attraction in the park. Rows of pine trees and the fully rejuvenated natural springs have enhanced the beauty of the place. Now this park is also the home for wild boars and rarest species of tortoise. Squirrels, rabbits, mountain cats, hares, fox, snakes, etc. are found in plenty. It is also the home of thousands of birds. The park measures more than 25000 hectares. In winter the park receives about 6 inches of snow. Summer of course is hot. For the convenience of the tourists, places have been designated for walking, etc. Resorts have also been built. Many restaurants are also available for the convenience of the tourists. Sierra National Park receives highest number of visitors every year. The forest is a fully protected area.
The Sierra Nevada National Park:
This is actually a mountain range in the Sierra town of Murica Province, covering an estimated 86200 hectares. The place is known for stony slopes, great gorges and great rivers which support huge vegetation with downhill and rare varieties of plants and shrubs. It is naturally the home for many species of wild animals and birds. There are about 20 peaks measuring more than 3000 meters and there are also many small hills. History says that Moors took shelter in this forest area after they were defeated by Romans. It has a ski training institute. The place receives heavy rainfall and so it supports agriculture. Olives, walnuts, cereals, grapes, apple are some of the crops grown in plenty in this park. The government of Spain has made special arrangements for tourist resorts. Trekking is allowed with the help of experienced guides. Along with trained guides, a tour into the forest is also allowed to see the wild animals in their natural habitat. Resorts and villas have been constructed in the villages near the
park. The Sierra Nevada National Park has all the facilities so that a tourist can have a comfortable and safe holiday in the midst of the wild environment.
